Job Description
The Head of Technology and Data will lead Janaagraha s technology and data strategy, ensuring the development, scaling, and governance of impactful digital solutions. This is a senior leadership position responsible for aligning the organization s technology and data vision with its mission to transform the quality of life in India s cities. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to foster collaboration across teams and with external stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Leadership: Define and execute Janaagraha s technology and data strategy, aligning with organizational goals and mission.
- Technology Innovation: Identify and implement cutting-edge technologies and platforms to enhance program outcomes and citizen engagement.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of engineers, product managers, data analysts, testers and sysadmins, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Sometimes, will need to lead by doing, and dive into code, data and infrastructure tasks even though this is not the primary responsibility.
- Data Governance and Insights: Oversee data strategy, ensuring data integrity, governance, and the effective use of analytics to drive decision-making and impact.
- Project Oversight: Provide executive oversight for all technology and data initiatives, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to budget, and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with internal program leaders and external stakeholders to co-create solutions that address urban challenges through technology and data.
- Infrastructure and Security: Ensure robust IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and scalability of digital platforms.
- Representation: Represent Janaagraha in relevant forums, building partnerships with technology and data communities, donors, and policymakers.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- 10+ years of overall experience, with at least 3 years managing software engineering teams.
- Proven track record of delivering complex technology projects, ideally with experience in non-profit, government-tech or civic-tech domains
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, product, data, and IT functions.
- Good understanding of modern software development, data platforms, and cloud infrastructure.
- Strong grasp of emerging technologies, including AI/ML and data analytics
- Proven ability to build, lead, and manage high-performing engineering teams
