Polymer Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Polymer Engineer to join our team. The candidate will play a key role in developing alternate polymer recipes, optimizing polymer formulations, and advancing innovative solutions for our plastic manufacturing processes. This position requires expertise in polymer chemistry, material science, and the ability to generate practical alternatives for existing polymer formulations to meet sustainability, cost, and performance goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop Alternate Polymer Formulations:
• Design and develop recipes for alternate polymers, including biopolymers, recycled polymers, or eco-friendly materials that maintain or improve product performance.
• Conduct laboratory experiments and material testing to optimize the properties of new formulations.
• Analyze and identify cost-effective alternatives to existing polymers while ensuring the compatibility with existing production processes.
• Sustainability Focus:
• Work with sustainability teams to develop solutions that minimize the environmental impact of plastic products through the use of renewable and biodegradable polymers.
• Focus on incorporating recycled materials into polymer formulations to align with circular economy goals.
• Technical Support:
• Provide technical support to production teams, troubleshooting polymer-related issues, and recommending improvements in processing techniques for alternate polymers.
• Assist with scaling up polymer recipes from lab to production, ensuring smooth transition to manufacturing processes.
• Collaboration & Innovation:
• Collaborate with internal teams (Production, Quality Control, and Marketing) to ensure that new polymer formulations meet the performance standards required for various applications.
• Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes in polymer development and sustainability.
• Quality Control and Testing:
• Ensure that alternate polymers meet quality standards through rigorous testing (mechanical properties, thermal stability, etc.).
• Analyze and interpret test data to make recommendations for improvements in the recipe formulations.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Document the development process for new formulations, including testing methods, results, and recommendations.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, highlighting the benefits and performance metrics of alternate polymer formulations.
• Location:
• The candidate shall be based in Mumbai HO. However, this role will require extensive travelling across all plant locations situated across India.

Qualifications:

• Educational Background:
• Bachelors or Master’s degree in Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 7-8 years of experience in polymer development, formulation, or related research roles in the plastics industry.
• Proven experience in developing sustainable or alternate polymer recipes, including the use of bioplastics, recycled polymers, or high-performance thermoplastics.
• Skills:
• Strong knowledge of polymer chemistry and material science, including polymerization processes, additives, and compounding techniques.
• Proficiency in lab testing and material characterization (e.g., tensile strength, elongation, thermal stability, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with polymer processing techniques such as extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, or similar.
• Understanding of environmental regulations and sustainability practices within the plastic manufacturing industry.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and optimizing formulations.Role & responsibilities
