Director - Legal (Food Law background)

Hiring: Director Legal | Bangalore, JP Nagar

Were looking for an experienced Director Legal to lead the legal function for Herbalife India. This position will be responsible for overseeing legal affairs in India, supporting the Vice President, Legal, APAC & India, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. As a key member of the India Management Team, this role requires a leader with strong legal expertise, strategic thinking, and team management experience.

Key Responsibilities:

✅ Lead and manage a team of four (2 Managers, 1 Supervisor, 1 Senior Officer), overseeing all legal and compliance matters.
✅ Advise and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Finance, HR, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and Compliance, to mitigate legal risks.
✅ Handle litigation, regulatory matters, and compliance with Indian laws, particularly Food Laws, FEMA, Company Law, and Consumer Protection Laws.
✅ Represent Herbalife India in legal proceedings and liaise with regulatory bodies, law enforcement, and external counsel.
✅ Manage corporate governance and company secretary functions.
✅ Proactively identify and resolve legal risks before they escalate.

What We’re Looking For:

✔️ 17+ years of legal experience in a top-tier law firm and/or corporate legal department.
✔️ Law degree from a reputed Indian law school.
✔️ Strong people management skills – experience leading legal teams and mentoring professionals.
✔️ Expertise in food law and regulatory compliance in the food processing industry.
✔️ Proven stability in career – ideal tenure of 3-4 years per role.
✔️ Excellent communication skills and ability to interact at all levels, including distributors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
✔️ Familiarity with US legal frameworks (securities, anti-corruption, unfair competition laws) is a plus.
✔️ Willingness to travel across India as needed.
