Job Summary

The Senior Network Engineer for Project and Operations is responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and maintaining network infrastructure for large-scale projects and ongoing operations. This role involves overseeing network design, implementation, and optimization while ensuring high availability and performance across systems. The engineer will manage complex network configurations, provide technical support, and work cross-functionally to address network-related challenges in both project and operational phases.

Key Responsibilities

1. Network Design & Architecture
• Lead the design and architecture of network systems for both new projects and existing operational environments.
• Create detailed network diagrams, design specifications, and deployment plans, ensuring compliance with industry standards and organizational requirements.
• Design solutions for large-scale network infrastructures including routing, switching, firewalls, and security components.
• Perform capacity planning to ensure the network is scalable and capable of meeting growing business demands.
2. Project Implementation & Management
• Manage the end-to-end deployment of network infrastructure for new projects, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.
• Coordinate with project managers, cross-functional teams, and external vendors to ensure smooth project execution.
• Supervise network installations, configurations, and testing of devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).
• Provide technical leadership during the implementation phase and ensure that best practices are followed.
3. Network Configuration & Optimization
• Configure and manage complex network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls, ensuring network security, reliability, and scalability.
• Perform regular network performance assessments and optimize configurations for optimal performance and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues related to connectivity, bandwidth, and device configurations.
• Implement performance tuning, load balancing, and network traffic management strategies.
4. Operations & Maintenance
• Ensure continuous and uninterrupted operation of network infrastructure in line with SLAs and operational requirements.
• Oversee the ongoing maintenance of network equipment, including firmware upgrades, patches, and network device lifecycle management.
• Manage network monitoring tools to track performance, identify potential bottlenecks, and proactively address issues.
• Coordinate with the IT and operations teams to ensure high availability and minimal downtime for network systems.
5. Troubleshooting & Support
• Provide advanced troubleshooting support for network-related issues across both project and operational environments.
• Lead the resolution of critical network incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
• Assist in root cause analysis for network failures and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
• Offer 2nd and 3rd level support to resolve complex technical issues related to network devices and configurations.
6. Security Management
• Implement and manage network security protocols and measures, including firewalls, VPNs, access control lists (ACLs), and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
• Ensure that all network systems adhere to security best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with security teams to monitor for vulnerabilities, security breaches, and unauthorized access.
• Perform regular security audits and assessments of network devices and configurations.
7. Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for network designs, configurations, incidents, and resolutions.
• Create and maintain network topology diagrams and configuration management databases (CMDB).
• Prepare regular network performance reports and incident reports for management, highlighting issues, resolutions, and improvements.
• Document changes to the network infrastructure and ensure proper change management processes are followed.
8. Collaboration & Vendor Management
• Work closely with project managers, IT teams, and other internal departments to ensure effective communication and smooth project execution.
• Manage vendor relationships for the procurement, installation, and support of network equipment and services.
• Ensure that service level agreements (SLAs) with vendors are met and escalate issues as needed.

Qualifications

• Education:
• Bachelors degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Advanced certifications in networking (CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent) are highly preferred.
• ITIL or PMP certification is a plus.
• Experience:
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering, with a focus on both project management and operations.
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-level network infrastructures.
• Experience working with various network equipment vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, HP, and others.
• Strong background in troubleshooting complex network issues and optimizing network performance.

Technical Skills

• Networking: Deep understanding of LAN/WAN, IP routing and switching, MPLS, SD-WAN, VoIP, and VPN technologies.
• Security: Knowledge of network security tools and best practices (firewalls, intrusion detection, VPNs).
• Monitoring Tools: Proficiency with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix).
• Scripting/Automation: Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate network management tasks is a plus.
• Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud networking solutions such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is an advantage.

Work Environment

• Location: Office-based, with some flexibility for remote work and occasional travel to project sites or client locations.
• Shifts: May require participation in an on-call rotation or after-hours support.
• Tools: Use of network monitoring software, project management tools, and enterprise-level network infrastructure.
