Road Safety - Senior Manager

Role & responsibilities

• Developing, implementing, and monitoring road safety policy and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including drafting of Road Safety Management Plan. Developed a robust incident reporting system for all accidents, near misses, and safety-related incidents and maintaining database of incidents and utilized the data for trend analysis and targeted safety improvements.
• Conducting thorough investigations to identify the root causes of road accidents through modelling and accident reconstruction and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Developing strategy and execution for EHS & Road Safety programs across Depots -Mid points/Endpoints/Opportunity charging stations
• Creating strategies for Depot-wise programs and initiatives that will improve the Road Safety Index. Identify opportunities in Vehicles, Coach-captains, and Route management to improve safety on the road for our employees, contractors, customers, and community.
• Taking lead in the implementation process of ISO 39001, including conducting risk assessments, developing policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with the standard through internal auditing.
• Develop and analyse trends in Depots Fleet score card (based on Coach-captain scorecard), create awareness amongst site team and track the compliance.
• Create an affinity group of Ops, Coach-captains, Coach-hosts and EHS members to contribute towards continuous improvement on the Road Safety Goal.
• Working with EHS, HR, Procurement, and legal team to create a set of non-negotiables in Road Safety compliance and drive the same through Golden rules and Safety Code of Conduct for all Coach-captains, LMV drivers and 2W riders including individual commute to depot/office by own.
• Work with IT team to harness technologies / platforms available to create meaningful Road Safety measurement and training modules.
• Development of Defensive Driving Techniques training programs specific to buses and innovative methodologies to deliver and measure the same.
• Collaborating with Global Road safety groups on implementation of Global Road Safety Best Practices Regularly review any notifications by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and inform Operations/Admin and HR on changes that affects them.
• Ensure robust reporting mechanisms are in place for EHS/ESG statistics around Road Safety. Providing management with information and statistics related to Road Safety. Work with local Road Transport Authorities, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Team to create opportunities for GMPL to contribute towards community Road safety initiatives.
• Conducted competency building training for operations team for conducting Route Risk Assessment for mapping hazards to ensure safe intercity & intracity bus movement. Work with Internal and External Communications team to create powerful Road Safety messaging in line with ESG/EHS Goals and Brand identity.
• Establishment & development of Coach-captain Center of Excellence (CCoE) across depot locations. Defining charter & ensuring development and implementation of periodic road safety campaigns as per the Campaign Calendar through Coach-captain Center of Excellence (CCoE). Ensure compliance through mechanisms like In-depot Road Safety compliance audits, Surprise audits etc.
• Partnering with third-party team on incident and injury case management and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) closure for Road Safety Incidents. Partnering with third party providers so that they meet GMPL requirements of Road Safety.
