GI Aerospace is seeking a Design Engineer to take full ownership of the design, development, and production coordination of our backshell product line. In this role, you will work with SolidWorks to create designs based on aerospace and military standards. You will independently manage the design process, collaborate with manufacturers, and oversee machining and plating requirements. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, extensive experience in mechanical design, and a deep understanding of backshell standards such as AS85049, MIL-DTL-38999, and MIL-DTL-5015.
Job Responsibilities
Lead the entire backshell design process from concept to production.
Create 3D models and detailed drawings in SolidWorks, ensuring compliance with aerospace and military standards.
Collaborate with manufacturers for machining and production, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective designs.
Manage plating requirements (e.g., anodizing, chromating) to meet environmental and durability standards.
Maintain the product catalog, updating engineering documentation, technical drawings, and BOMs.
Ensure on-time delivery by managing project timelines and coordinating with internal teams and suppliers.
Drive continuous improvement by staying updated on industry standards and innovations.
Job Requirements
Bachelor s or Master s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
5+ years of experience in backshell or connector design, particularly in aerospace or defense industries.
Proficient in SolidWorks with experience creating complex mechanical designs.
Knowledge of industry standards like AS85049, MIL-DTL-38999 and MIL-DTL-5015.
Familiar with machining processes (e.g., CNC machining) and plating techniques.
Strong leadership skills and ability to manage the entire design process independently.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
