Head Software Engineering

Role & responsibilities

We are looking for a Head of Software Engineering with 18+ years of experience to lead and shape product strategies and solutions.

The person is responsible for overseeing the entire software engineering function within the company. S/he is required to manage and lead engineering teams, drive technical innovation, and align technical strategies with overall business goals.

The person is essentially to be in charge of the entire software development lifecycle, from planning to deployment, ensuring high-quality software delivery while aligning with business objectives and fostering a culture of innovation within the engineering team.

• Team Leadership:

Managing and mentoring software engineering teams, including team leads, assigning tasks, and providing career development opportunities.

• Technical Strategy:

Defining and executing the overall technical vision for software development, including architecture design, technology selection, and best practices.

• Project Management:

Overseeing software development projects, ensuring timely delivery, meeting quality standards, and managing project budgets.

• Collaboration:

Working closely with product managers, stakeholders, and other departments to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.

• Innovation:

Identifying and implementing new technologies, frameworks, and methodologies to improve development efficiency and product quality.

• Quality Assurance:

Enforcing quality standards throughout the development process, including code reviews, testing, and deployment procedures.

• Hiring and Talent Development:

Recruiting and hiring top software engineering talent, and fostering a positive work environment to retain employees.

• Performance Evaluation:

Assessing team performance against goals and providing feedback to individuals and team

Preferred candidate profile

Experience

• Strong technical background in software development, including proficiency in multiple programming languages and architectural design principles
• Graduate / Masters in Technology preferably in CS/IT/related fields with more than 3 years of latest experience in handling Engineering function. Overall experience in IT to be in the range of 18-20 years. Additional industry certifications would be an advantage.
• Proven leadership experience managing large software engineering teams
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Deep understanding of software development methodologies like Agile and DevOps
• Strategic thinking and ability to align technical decisions with business objectives
• Experience in managing project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation
