Job Summary :

The QA Tester will be responsible for performing API testing, functional testing, and database testing using SQL to ensure the quality, correctness, and reliability of software applications. The role requires a strong understanding of the software’s functionality, effective interaction with databases, and validation of APIs. This tester will work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to identify defects, improve product quality, and ensure that the software meets the desired requirements.

Key Responsibilities :

1. API Testing :

• Develop and Execute API Tests : Create, execute, and maintain test cases for APIs (RESTful, SOAP) to validate functionality, performance, security, and error handling.
• Test API Responses : Verify API responses for accuracy, format, status codes, response times, and data consistency.
• Automation : Where applicable, create automated test scripts using tools such as Postman , SoapUI , RestAssured , or JMeter for API testing.
• Integration Testing : Ensure APIs integrate properly with other systems and services.
• Security & Performance Testing : Conduct security testing (e.g., OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities) and performance testing for APIs to ensure they are secure and scalable.
• Document API Test Results : Maintain detailed documentation of API test cases, test results, and any issues discovered during testing.

2. Functional Testing :

• Test Case Development : Develop, review, and execute test cases based on business requirements, user stories, and functional specifications.
• Regression Testing : Perform regression testing to ensure that new code changes do not negatively impact existing functionality.
• System and UAT Testing : Conduct system and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to verify that the application behaves according to the functional requirements.
• Bug Identification and Reporting : Identify, log, and track bugs and issues using a defect tracking tool (e.g., JIRA , Bugzilla ).
• Collaboration with Development Team : Work closely with developers and business analysts to understand functional requirements and ensure test cases are comprehensive.

3. SQL Testing :

• Database Validation : Validate that the application correctly interacts with databases by running SQL queries to verify data consistency and integrity.
• Query Writing : Write complex SQL queries to verify data stored in databases, ensuring the correct data is returned, updated, or deleted.
• Data Migration Testing : Test data migration tasks and verify that data has been correctly migrated from legacy systems or external sources into the database.
• Performance Testing : Run database performance tests to check query performance, indexing, and scalability under various loads.
• Verify Stored Procedures and Functions : Ensure that stored procedures, triggers, and functions are working as expected by executing queries and validating results.

4. Collaboration & Communication :

• Agile Participation : Work in an Agile environment, attending daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to collaborate with the development and product teams.
• Cross-functional Collaboration : Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and other testers to understand requirements, identify testing needs, and share test results.
• Test Documentation : Maintain clear and detailed documentation for test cases, test scripts, and defect reports.
• Feedback and Reporting : Regularly report testing progress, findings, and risks to the QA lead, project manager, and other stakeholders.

5. Continuous Improvement :

• Test Process Improvement : Identify areas for improving test coverage, efficiency, and effectiveness, and propose improvements to the testing process.
• Automation Adoption : Advocate for and implement automation in API testing and other repetitive testing tasks where applicable.
• Stay Updated : Keep up-to-date with the latest trends in testing methodologies, tools, and technologies.

Required Skills and Qualifications :

• Education : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience :
  • Proven experience in API testing, functional testing, and database testing using SQL.
  • Experience with API testing tools such as Postman , SoapUI , RestAssured , or similar.
  • Strong understanding of functional testing methodologies and experience with writing and executing test cases.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience writing complex SQL queries for database validation, data migration, and performance testing.
  • Experience with bug tracking tools (e.g., JIRA , Bugzilla , Trello ).
• Technical Skills :
  • Strong knowledge of REST and SOAP API principles, including HTTP methods, response codes, headers, and body formats (JSON, XML).
  • Understanding of web services, data formats (JSON, XML), and testing tools for web services (e.g., Postman, SoapUI).
  • Familiarity with database concepts such as normalization, joins, primary/foreign keys, and indexing.
  • Experience in writing and executing queries for verifying data integrity, data consistency, and performance issues.
  • Familiarity with version control tools like Git or SVN .
  • Experience in using test management tools (e.g., TestRail , Quality Center ).
• Analytical Skills : Strong attention to detail and the ability to think critically to identify issues and potential test scenarios.
• Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with developers, product teams, and stakeholders.
• Agile Experience : Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Preferred Skills :

• Test Automation : Experience in test automation for API testing or functional testing (e.g., using Selenium , TestNG , JUnit , Cucumber ).
• Performance Testing : Knowledge of performance testing tools like JMeter , LoadRunner , or Gatling .
• Security Testing : Understanding of API security testing practices, such as OWASP and penetration testing.
• CI/CD : Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., using Jenkins , GitLab CI , CircleCI ).
• Cloud Platforms : Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS , Azure , or Google Cloud , particularly in the context of API and database testing.
