Automation testing professional

Job Summary :

The Automation Tester is responsible for creating, executing, and maintaining automated tests for web, mobile, and desktop applications. This role focuses on increasing testing efficiency, improving test coverage, and enhancing the overall software development life cycle (SDLC) by automating repetitive testing tasks. The Automation Tester works closely with development and QA teams to identify test cases for automation, develop scripts, and ensure continuous integration of automated tests in CI/CD pipelines.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Automation Test Development :

• Develop automated test scripts using industry-standard frameworks (e.g., Selenium , Appium , TestNG , JUnit , Cypress , JUnit , Robot Framework ).
• Design and maintain reusable and robust automation test scripts for various applications (web, mobile, or desktop).
• Work with QA engineers and developers to understand the testing requirements and create automation plans.
• Automate functional, regression, smoke, sanity, and performance tests for web and mobile applications.

2. Test Execution & Reporting :

• Execute automated test scripts and analyze the results, identifying any issues, bugs, or defects.
• Report and document issues clearly in a bug tracking tool (e.g., JIRA , Bugzilla ), providing steps to reproduce, screenshots, and logs.
• Collaborate with developers to troubleshoot issues, validate bug fixes, and re-execute tests to ensure issues are resolved.
• Provide detailed test reports and metrics, including test coverage, pass/fail rates, and test execution results.

3. Continuous Integration & Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) :

• Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline (using tools like Jenkins , CircleCI , Travis CI , etc.) to ensure automated tests run frequently and early in the development lifecycle.
• Ensure tests are executed automatically during each code commit, pull request, and deployment process.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the integration of automation scripts with CI/CD tools.

4. Test Strategy & Planning :

• Work closely with product owners, developers, and other QA team members to define test strategies and identify test cases for automation.
• Analyze requirements and create detailed automation test plans, test cases, and scripts.
• Identify and prioritize test cases that provide the highest return on investment for automation.

5. Test Maintenance & Optimization :

• Continuously maintain and update existing automation scripts to adapt to changes in application features, UI updates, or changes in system architecture.
• Optimize existing automated test scripts for efficiency, performance, and reliability.
• Refactor scripts to improve readability, reusability, and maintainability.

6. Collaboration & Communication :

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, manual testers, product managers, and business analysts, to ensure comprehensive test coverage.
• Communicate clearly and regularly with the QA team and stakeholders regarding automation progress, issues, and results.
• Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to provide updates and assist in the planning of upcoming automation tasks.

7. Defect Management & Issue Resolution :

• Work with developers to reproduce defects, identify root causes, and assist in the debugging process.
• Provide clear, concise, and actionable feedback on issues found during automated testing.
• Ensure that defects are tracked properly and that the status of issues is updated regularly.

8. Performance & Load Testing :

• Perform load testing and measure application performance using appropriate tools (e.g., JMeter , Gatling , LoadRunner ).
• Identify performance bottlenecks, memory issues, and areas for optimization.

Required Skills and Qualifications :

• Education : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience : Proven experience in test automation, with knowledge of automated testing tools and frameworks.
• Technical Skills :
  • Strong experience with automation frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver , Cypress , Appium , TestNG , JUnit , or Cucumber .
  • Experience with scripting languages like Java , Python , JavaScript , or Ruby .
  • Experience working with version control tools such as Git , SVN , or Bitbucket .
  • Familiarity with build tools like Maven , Gradle , or Ant .
  • Knowledge of testing web services (REST, SOAP) and tools like Postman or SoapUI .
  • Familiarity with databases and the ability to perform database testing using SQL queries.
  • Understanding of CI/CD concepts and experience with tools like Jenkins , Bamboo , or GitLab CI .
• Problem-Solving : Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to debug complex automation issues.
• Collaboration : Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to design test plans, review code, and discuss issues.
• Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills to report findings and provide clear feedback to the team.

Preferred Skills :

• Performance Testing : Experience with performance testing tools like JMeter , LoadRunner , or Gatling .
• Cloud Platforms : Experience with cloud services like AWS , Azure , or Google Cloud .
• Mobile Testing : Experience with mobile test automation frameworks like Appium , Espresso , or XCUITest .
• Security Testing : Understanding of security testing and knowledge of tools for API security testing (e.g., OWASP ZAP ).
• Agile Methodologies : Experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment, participating in sprints and delivering automation tasks on time.
