Geotechnical Engineer (Water Supply Project)

Key Responsibilities:

1. Site Investigation & Analysis:
   
• Conduct geotechnical surveys to assess soil and rock properties at water supply locations, including drilling boreholes and soil sampling.
• Analyze subsurface conditions to determine the suitability for the construction of wells, pipelines, dams, or reservoirs.
• Perform geotechnical testing, including soil permeability, compaction, and strength tests, and interpret results.
2. Design and Recommendations:
   
• Provide geotechnical design recommendations for foundation systems, embankments, and other water-related infrastructure based on the findings of the site investigation.
• Assess groundwater conditions to support the planning of well fields, underground tanks, and other storage systems.
• Recommend methods for improving soil conditions, such as soil stabilization, to ensure safe construction.
3. Hydrological and Hydrogeological Studies:
   
• Support hydrogeologists by interpreting water table data and analyzing groundwater flow, especially for water supply wells.
• Conduct groundwater recharge studies to ensure long-term water availability.
• Evaluate risks related to flooding, soil erosion, and groundwater contamination.
4. Risk Assessment & Environmental Impact:
   
• Perform risk assessments regarding soil movement, slope stability, and potential water contamination.
• Ensure the project complies with environmental standards, providing solutions for managing any identified environmental impacts from construction activities.
5. Collaboration and Reporting:
   
• Work closely with civil engineers, environmental engineers, and project managers to integrate geotechnical aspects into the overall project design.
• Prepare technical reports, geotechnical investigation findings, and design recommendations.
• Provide ongoing support during the construction phase, advising on the mitigation of geotechnical risks.
6. Quality Assurance & Compliance:
   
• Ensure all geotechnical work complies with local regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
• Monitor the construction process to verify the implementation of geotechnical recommendations.
7. Monitoring & Maintenance:
   
• Advise on long-term monitoring strategies for soil stability and groundwater conditions.
• Review the performance of completed water supply infrastructure and recommend any necessary repairs or upgrades.
