Job Description

The Checkout Core Services Team at Expedia Group is building a cutting-edge platform to deliver an exceptional checkout experience for EG travelers. We are passionate to build highly scalable and maintainable complex systems that ensure high resilience.

The Software Development Engineer will design, code and deliver along with the team. Will work across various tech stakeholders and platform teams. We are looking for a strong SDE with the ability to experiment new approaches, with an execution focus on key existing tech drivers.

In this role, you will:

Work closely with the TPM and product teams to craft new product features
Be responsible for contributing & leading to developing scalable, resilient, and performant applications
Proactively teams up with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross dependencies and shared problem solving.
Participates in a community of practice to share and gain knowledge.
Continually seeks new technical skills in an engineering area.
Shares new skills and knowledge with team to increase effectiveness.
Demonstrates knowledge of advanced and relevant technology.
Understands the relationship between applications, databases and technology platforms.
Develops and tests complex or non-routine software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements.
Effectively applies knowledge of software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions.
Effectively applies knowledge of databases and database design principles to solve data requirements.
Effectively uses the understanding of software frameworks and how to leverage them to write simpler code.
Leads/clarifies code evolution in code reviews.
Brings together different stakeholders with varied perspectives to develop solutions to issues, and contributes own suggestions.
Thinks holistically to identify opportunities around policies/ processes to increase efficiency across organizational boundaries.
Assists with a whole systems approach to analyzing issues by ensuring all components (structure, people, process and technology) are identified and accounted for.
Identifies areas of inefficiency in code or systems operation and offer suggestions for improvements.
Compiles and reports on major operational or technical initiatives (like RCAs) to larger groups, whether via written or oral means.

Experience and qualifications:

Bachelors or masters degree in a related technical field; or e quivalent related professional experience
Have 4.5+ years of development experience in Java and related languages
Prior experience of applying new engineering principles to improve existing systems, including leading small, well-defined projects
A self-starter with an appetite to solve problems through development and engineering of resilient and capable systems
Strong interpersonal , problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong e xperience with Kotlin or Java programming languages with multiple technology implementations . Knowledge of Graphql is an added advantage
U nderstand s the SDLC and Agile development methodology.
Understands the o bservability fundamentals like metrics, logging, and tracing.
Understands CI/CD framework to automate builds, test, and deploy.
Comfortable with developer tools like GitHub, CICD tools, etc.
Experience working with Spinnaker and CICD pipelines is a plus.
