Ecommerce Accountant

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Ecommerce Accountant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing the accounting operations for our ecommerce platform(s), ensuring the accuracy of financial transactions, and providing insights into our ecommerce financial performance. You will be responsible for day-to-day financial operations, including invoicing, reconciliations, financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Reporting & Analysis:
• Prepare Daily, Weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
• Provide detailed analysis and reports on sales, revenue, expenses, and margins for ecommerce operations.
2. Transaction Management:
• Oversee the reconciliation of ecommerce transactions across platforms (e.g., Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Myntra, Zepto, Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart etc).
• Manage invoicing, collections, and accounts payable/receivable for ecommerce sales.
• Track and reconcile ecommerce-related inventory, including purchase orders, returns, and stock adjustments.
3. Sales Tax Compliance:
• Manage sales tax calculations and reporting, ensuring compliance with local, state, and international tax regulations.
• Coordinate and submit sales tax filings, along with managing any audits or inquiries.
4. Month-End & Year-End Close:
• Assist with the monthly and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Prepare and file all necessary reports for audit and tax purposes.
5. Internal Controls:
• Implement and maintain financial controls and procedures to safeguard the company's assets.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., sales, operations, marketing) to streamline financial processes and ensure proper recording of transactions.
6. Payment Processing & Gateway Management:
• Monitor and reconcile payments and refunds across multiple ecommerce platforms and payment gateways.
• Investigate discrepancies in payment records and resolve issues in a timely manner.
7. Profitability & Cash Flow Management:
• Analyze ecommerce financial performance and provide insights on profitability, margin improvements, and cost-saving opportunities.
• Manage cash flow related to ecommerce transactions, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations and growth.
8. Software & System Management:
• Utilize accounting software and ecommerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, WooCommerce) for financial tracking and reporting.
• Work with the IT team to integrate accounting software with ecommerce platforms and ensure seamless data flow.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent certification preferred).
• Experience:
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accounting, preferably with exposure to ecommerce or retail industries.
• Strong understanding of ecommerce platforms and payment processing systems.
• Experience with financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with tax laws and ecommerce-specific financial regulations.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
