Fiber Engineer/Service Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fiber Engineer to join our team at Elxer Communications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Installation and Deployment
• Install, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cables.
• Conduct site surveys to determine the optimal placement of fiber optic infrastructure.
• Set up and configure fiber optic equipment, including routers, switches, and related hardware.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety protocols during installation.
2. Maintenance and Troubleshooting
• Perform routine maintenance on fiber optic networks to ensure optimal performance.
• Diagnose and repair fiber optic faults, including cuts, bends, and other forms of damage.
• Use testing equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and light sources to identify and resolve network issues.
• Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance activities.
3. Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain accurate records of all installation and maintenance activities.
• Prepare detailed reports on network performance, faults, and repairs.
• Update network diagrams and documentation to reflect changes and upgrades.
4. Customer Support
• Provide technical support and guidance to customers experiencing issues with their fiber optic connections.
• Work closely with the customer service team to resolve network-related issues promptly and efficiently.
• Conduct customer site visits when necessary to address and resolve technical problems.
5. Team Collaboration and Development
• Collaborate with network engineers, planners, and other technical staff to ensure seamless integration and operation of fiber optic networks.
• Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
• Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance, preferably within an ISP environment.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) or FOA (Fiber Optic Association) certification are highly desirable.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with fiber optic equipment and tools, including OTDRs, fusion splicers, and power meters.

Working Conditions

• This role may require working in various environments, including indoors, outdoors, and in confined spaces.
• Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
