Job Description

Job Title: Fire Officer
Reports to: Chief Security Officer (CSO) / Safety Manager


Job Overview:

The Fire Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all guests, employees, and property of The Oberoi, Mumbai & Trident Nariman Point in the event of a fire or any related emergencies. This role involves overseeing fire prevention measures, conducting safety inspections, leading emergency response procedures, and ensuring that the hotel complies with fire safety regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fire Safety and Prevention:

    • Develop, implement, and enforce fire prevention and safety policies and procedures in accordance with local fire safety regulations.
    • Conduct regular fire risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
    • Oversee the maintenance of fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, alarms, sprinkler systems, and fire exits, ensuring they are in proper working condition.

2. Emergency Preparedness and Response:

    • Lead the hotels emergency response plan in the event of a fire or related emergency, ensuring all staff and guests are evacuated safely and quickly.
    • Conduct regular fire drills and training sessions for staff to ensure everyone is familiar with evacuation routes and emergency protocols.
    • Act as a first responder during fire emergencies, coordinating with the local fire department, and providing support in extinguishing the fire when needed.

3. Training and Awareness:

    • Conduct fire safety training for all hotel staff, ensuring they understand fire safety measures, evacuation procedures, and emergency roles.
    • Train staff to handle fire alarms, extinguishers, and emergency communication systems effectively.
    • Organize regular fire drills, ensuring that they are planned, executed, and evaluated for continuous improvement.

4. Compliance and Documentation:

    • Ensure that the hotel adheres to all local fire safety laws, building codes, and occupational health and safety regulations.
    • Maintain accurate records of fire drills, safety inspections, equipment maintenance, and any fire-related incidents.
    • Prepare and submit reports on fire safety matters to hotel management, providing insights into safety performance and areas for improvement.

5. Fire Incident Management:

    • In the event of a fire or related emergency, coordinate the response, provide assistance, and manage the evacuation process efficiently and calmly.
    • Work with local fire departments and emergency services to manage the scene and ensure safety protocols are followed.
    • Analyze post-incident reports and implement corrective measures to prevent future incidents.

6. Equipment and Infrastructure Management:

    • Oversee the proper installation and maintenance of fire alarms, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, and other firefighting equipment.
    • Ensure that fire exits are clear, properly marked, and accessible at all times.
    • Conduct routine checks and tests of fire safety equipment to ensure they are functional.

7. Collaboration and Coordination:

    • Collaborate with the security, engineering, and operations teams to address fire-related safety issues and maintain a safe environment for guests and staff.
    • Maintain communication with local fire authorities and emergency services to stay updated on fire safety procedures, regulations, and emergency protocols.

8. Continuous Improvement:

    • Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in fire safety technologies and regulations.
    • Proactively recommend improvements in fire safety measures to enhance the hotel's overall safety standards.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements:
    • Graduate and certifications in fire safety or emergency management (e.g., Fire Safety Officer certification, CPR, First Aid) from reputed institute.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Fire Officer or in a related role, ideally within a hotel, large hospitality establishment, or a high-risk environment.
    • Experience in managing emergency situations, fire drills, and safety compliance.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of fire safety protocols, fire prevention strategies, and firefighting equipment.
    • Ability to manage crisis situations, make quick decisions, and lead evacuations calmly and efficiently.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and educate staff on fire safety measures.
    • Strong attention to detail when conducting safety inspections and audits.
    • Proficiency in fire safety equipment and systems, including alarms, sprinklers, and emergency lighting systems.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Calm under pressure and decisive in emergency situations.
    • Strong leadership abilities and the ability to coordinate with multiple departments during a crisis.
    • High level of integrity and commitment to safety.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
