C++ Desktop Application Developer

Role:

• We are seeking an experienced C++ Desktop Application Developer with expertise in porting applications across different versions of QT (from QT 4 to QT 5, and eventually QT 6).

Responsibilities:

• Port an existing application from QT 4 to QT 5, and eventually to QT 6.
• Maintain and further develop an established 25-year-old application, refactoring legacy code and enhancing functionality.
• Ensure smooth integration and compatibility between different versions of QT.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and address application requirements and design improvements.
• Handle bug fixes, performance enhancements, and contribute to long-term stability of the product.
• Potential involvement in 3D visualization development, including scene graph management.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
• Review and optimize legacy code where necessary while preserving functionality.
• Conduct code reviews, write unit tests, and contribute to the overall improvement of the development process.

Skills and experience

• Education: Successfully completed university degree in computer science or comparable.
• Experience: Minimum 4-5 years of professional experience as a C++ Developer with strong expertise in QT.
• Proficiency in C++: Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and best practices.
• QT Framework: Extensive experience with QT, particularly migrating applications to higher versions of QT.
• Legacy Code: Comfortable working with and refactoring legacy code.
• 3D Visualization: Experience or interest in working with 3D visualization, scene graphs, or similar areas is beneficial.
• Languages: Proficiency in English is required.
• Problem-solving: Ability to think critically and troubleshoot issues within complex, legacy systems.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on collaborating effectively across cross-functional and global teams, especially when working with legacy code.

Good to have additional competencies:

• German language skills are desirable.
• Previous experience with 3D rendering libraries or frameworks.
• Familiarity with modern development tools and practices in C++ and QT.
• Understanding of performance optimizations, multi-threading, and memory management in C++.
