Role & responsibilities

Role Overview:

The Head of School will be the leader and operational manager for Little Lantern. She will ensure that the preschool provides a world-class learning experience while adhering to Finnish pedagogical principles. This role requires a passionate educator and skilled administrator who can balance curriculum innovation, staff management, parent collaboration, and day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development and Innovation:

• Develop and implement an age-appropriate curriculum aligned with Finnish pedagogy.
• Innovate new teaching methods and activities that foster creativity, critical thinking, and holistic development.
• Ensure the curriculum integrates play-based learning, outdoor activities, and experiential learning.

Staff Management:

• Recruit, train, and mentor teachers and support staff, ensuring alignment with the schools vision and values.
• Conduct regular staff meetings, performance evaluations, and professional development sessions.
• Foster a collaborative and positive work environment for all team members.

Parent and Community Collaboration:

• Build strong relationships with parents, acting as a point of contact for their concerns, feedback, and suggestions.
• Organize parent-teacher interactions, workshops, and events to encourage family involvement in the childs learning journey.
• Represent the school in the local community to build its reputation and establish connections.

Day-to-Day Operations:

• Oversee daily school operations, including scheduling, resource management, and compliance with safety protocols.
• Manage budgets, procurement of materials, and allocation of resources efficiently.
• Ensure the physical environment is safe, clean, and conducive to learning.

Strategic Leadership:

• Establish and maintain high standards of educational excellence and innovation.
• Stay updated on the latest trends in early childhood education and incorporate them into school practices.
• Develop and execute strategies to grow the school and maintain its competitive edge.

Admissions and Outreach

• Lead the admissions process, including inquiries, school tours, and student onboarding.
• Develop and execute marketing and outreach initiatives to attract prospective families.
• Represent Little Lantern at community events and build relationships within the local community.

Preferred candidate profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education Administration, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in teaching or school leadership, preferably in a preschool setting.
• Deep understanding of play-based learning methods.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with staff, parents, and the community.
• Passion for early childhood education and innovation in teaching methods.
