Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Investigate Product and System Problems : Understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate actions, and document results with guidance from more experienced team members.
Execute and Improve Processes : Focus on established processes documented in local and global work instructions (EPs) required in Engineering Standard Work (ESW) and/or Design Validation Plans (DVP&R).
Develop Computational Tools and Methods : Support design and validation processes through standard and specialized computational tools, enabling high-confidence decision-making.
Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams : Obtain input from Design, Thermal Sciences, Materials, and Product Validation teams to deliver computer models and results for key structural performance parameters.
Apply Formal Training : Use knowledge in Statics, Dynamics, Machine Design, Mechanics of Materials, Failure Analysis, and Engineering Materials, along with tool-specific training (ANSYS, FE-Safe, GT, AVL) to make design decisions.
Problem Resolution : Own problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems, or services, with increasing technical complexity and ambiguity as experience is gained.
Independent Execution : Provide independent execution of established work processes and systems while developing technology or product knowledge and engaging in system and process improvements.
Team Contribution : Contribute effectively toward team goals, exhibit influence within a workgroup, and continue to develop proficiency in critical competency areas.

Experience:

Entry-Level/Early Career : Preferred candidates will have relevant experience in a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline.
Technical Skills : Experience with MS Office tools, Matlab, Python, APDL-ANSYS, FORTRAN or C programming, Windows/Linux operating systems, and desktop/remote high-performance computing hardware systems is preferred.

Competencies:

Principles of Dynamics and Vibration : Evaluate motion, natural frequencies, mode shapes, displacements, velocities, accelerations, friction, and wear to influence design decisions.
Principles of Fatigue and Durability : Determine component life through numerical modeling and physical measurements, evaluating temperatures, natural frequencies, displacements, strains/stresses, wear, and fatigue life.
Statistical Methods : Analyze technical data using descriptive statistics, probability distributions, graphical analysis, and statistical inference to make data-based decisions.
Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis : Utilize computational tools to predict product function capabilities relative to system, sub-system, and component requirements.
Product Problem Solving : Solve product problems using a process that protects the customer, determines the assignable cause, implements robust solutions, and identifies systemic root causes.
Systems Modeling and Simulation : Use analytical tools to derive knowledge about systems, define modeling strategies, and make quality decisions.
Collaboration : Build partnerships and work collaboratively to meet shared objectives.
Effective Communication : Develop and deliver communications that convey a clear understanding of different audiences' needs.
Decision Quality : Make good and timely decisions to keep the organization moving forward.
Drive Results : Consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances.
Self-Development : Seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels.
Value Differences : Recognize the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.
Systems Thinking : Define and analyze systems to understand their behavior and devise modifications to produce desired effects.
Technical Documentation : Document information based on technical function activities to enable improved productivity and knowledge transfer.

Qualifications:

Education : Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an appropriate STEM field is required. A Master's degree relevant to this discipline may be required for select roles.
Licenses/Certifications : This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
