BIM Design Manager (MEP Mechanical/Electrical)

Job Summary:

The BIM Design Manager will be responsible for leading the BIM strategy, implementation, and coordination for MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems in large-scale industrial and commercial projects. The role requires expertise in BIM workflows, model management, clash detection, and coordination across disciplines to ensure efficient and optimized project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

1. BIM Management & Implementation

• Develop and enforce BIM execution plans (BEP) and standards for MEP projects.
• Oversee the implementation of BIM workflows and ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Manage and coordinate BIM models for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Conduct regular clash detection and resolve coordination issues between disciplines.
• Lead BIM coordination meetings with consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.

2. Design Leadership & Technical Expertise

• Review and validate MEP models, drawings, and design documentation.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC, ISO 19650, etc.).
• Provide technical guidance on mechanical and electrical system designs.
• Optimize system layouts using BIM tools to improve efficiency and reduce clashes.

3. Project Coordination & Collaboration

• Work closely with architects, structural engineers, and other design teams.
• Support planning, estimation, and construction teams with accurate BIM data.
• Manage document control and ensure proper versioning of design files.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior BIM engineers and designers.

4. Software & Technology Management

• Expert in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Dynamo, and BIM 360.
• Experience with parametric modeling, scripting (Dynamo/Python), and automation.
• Knowledge of cloud-based collaboration tools and Common Data Environment (CDE).
• Evaluate new BIM technologies and recommend improvements to workflows.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 15+ years of experience in MEP design and BIM management.
• Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
• Deep understanding of MEP systems and their integration into BIM workflows.
• Experience in large-scale industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of construction methodologies and sequencing related to MEP.
