Job Description

Education Qualification


The candidate must have a B.E. or B.Tech degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.

Additionally, the candidate should have experience as a Planning Engineer in construction or infrastructure-related projects.


Role & responsibilities


1. Project Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop and Maintain Project Schedule: Create detailed project schedules using software tools like Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar to plan and monitor project progress.
  • Define Milestones and Deadlines: Establish key milestones, timelines, and deadlines for various project activities.
  • Resource Planning: Plan and allocate resources (labor, materials, equipment) efficiently for each phase of the project.
  • Timeframe Estimation: Estimate the time required to complete various tasks based on the scope of work and project complexity.

2. Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

  • Develop WBS: Break down the entire project into manageable sections and tasks, known as a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Assign Tasks: Assign specific responsibilities for each task to different teams or departments involved in the project.
  • Ensure Proper Sequencing: Ensure tasks are logically sequenced, prioritizing critical activities and dependencies.

3. Resource Management and Optimization

  • Resource Allocation: Oversee the allocation of resources (human resources, equipment, materials) to ensure that they are efficiently utilized throughout the project.
  • Track Resource Usage: Monitor resource usage and adjust allocations as required to avoid bottlenecks or shortages.
  • Optimize Resources: Implement strategies to optimize resource use, reduce wastage, and increase efficiency.

4. Monitoring and Progress Tracking

  • Track Project Progress: Continuously monitor project activities to ensure work is being completed according to the project schedule.
  • Identify Delays and Issues: Identify any delays or potential risks that may affect the project timeline, and report them to management.
  • Generate Progress Reports: Prepare and present periodic progress reports on the status of the project to stakeholders, highlighting achievements, issues, and corrective actions taken.

5. Risk Management

  • Identify Risks: Analyze potential risks that could impact the project schedule, including weather, supply chain disruptions, and labor shortages.
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop contingency plans and strategies to mitigate project risks and prevent delays.
  • Monitor Risks: Continuously evaluate risk factors throughout the project lifecycle, adjusting plans and resources accordingly.

6. Cost Estimation and Budget Control

  • Prepare Cost Estimates: Assist in estimating project costs, including labor, materials, and equipment, and help develop the project budget.
  • Monitor Budgets: Track project expenditures and ensure they remain within budget. Report any cost overruns or variations to management.
  • Identify Cost-Saving Measures: Recommend cost-effective solutions without compromising the quality of the project.

7. Coordination and Communication

  • Coordinate with Teams: Liaise with different teams, including design, procurement, construction, and quality control, to ensure alignment and smooth execution of the project.
  • Communicate with Stakeholders: Maintain communication with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and consultants, ensuring that all are informed of project progress and any issues.
  • Collaboration with Contractors: Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure the timely completion of their tasks and resolve any delays or conflicts.

8. Document Control

  • Maintain Documentation: Ensure all project documentation, including schedules, plans, contracts, and progress reports, are well-organized and up to date.
  • Track Changes: Document any changes to the original plan (e.g., changes in scope, timelines, or budget) and ensure proper approval processes are followed.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure that all project documentation complies with internal standards, industry regulations, and client requirements.

9. Quality Assurance

  • Ensure Compliance with Specifications: Ensure that the project schedule aligns with quality standards and contractual specifications.
  • Monitor Quality Control: Track quality control processes during construction and ensure that they adhere to the set quality benchmarks.
  • Resolve Issues: Address any quality concerns promptly to avoid delays and ensure that the project progresses smoothly.

10. Change Management

  • Manage Change Requests: Track and manage any changes to the scope of work or project schedule, including evaluating the impact of the changes on project timelines and resources.
  • Update Plans: Make necessary updates to the project schedule and resources based on change orders, ensuring that delays or cost overruns are minimized.
  • Analyze Impact of Changes: Assess the impact of changes and delays on the overall project timeline, and provide recommendations to mitigate the effects.

11. Critical Path Management

  • Identify Critical Path: Determine the critical path of the project (the sequence of tasks that directly affect the projects completion date) and ensure that activities on the critical path are completed on time.
  • Monitor Critical Tasks: Track tasks on the critical path closely to avoid delays that could impact the projects overall schedule.

12. Scheduling Optimization

  • Optimize Schedules: Regularly review the project schedule and identify opportunities to expedite tasks or change sequencing to improve efficiency.
  • Evaluate Delays: Investigate the causes of delays and work to reallocate resources or adjust schedules to bring the project back on track.

13. Final Project Handover

  • Complete Handover Process: Ensure all deliverables are completed on schedule and assist with the final handover of the project.
  • Project Closure: Ensure that all aspects of the project, including documentation, are completed and signed off by stakeholders upon project completion.

14. Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate Project Performance: At the end of the project, evaluate the performance of planning activities, identify lessons learned, and provide suggestions for improving planning practices in future projects.
  • Implement Best Practices: Recommend improvements and best practices for future projects based on the lessons learned from the current project.
