PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
This role is responsible for all direct corporate income tax matters in India and Sri Lanka, and for advising on indirect taxes matters. The role will involve active management of risk mitigation, tax audits, tax incentives and opportunities in these territories. In addition, the role is responsible for transfer pricing, tax reporting, tax forecasting, tax authority audits and tax advisory matters for these territories. The role has 1 dotted line direct report in Sri Lanka.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for managing all corporate income tax compliance obligations in India and Sri Lanka. This includes managing tax advisors and tax authorities as necessary to ensure the groups tax obligations are efficiently managed.
2. Lead identification of local tax compliance and planning initiatives in India and Sri Lanka, including and support execution of such initiatives as required. This includes identification of any tax incentives, tax or government subsidies and tax treatment thereon;
3. Assist in the identification, implementation and management of global strategic tax planning initiatives as relevant to companies in the region, to ensure that tax the Group's tax charge is optimised.
4. Lead identification of tax risk in relation to all direct and indirect taxes in India, including identification, investigation and evaluating mitigation to ensure risk is effectively assessed and mitigated. Manage Tax Authority audits/ enquiries, including liaison with tax advisors and managing the provision of information with the Tax Assistant and BUs.
5. Manage Sri Lankan tax risks with the support of the Tax Assistant in Sri Lanka.
6. Provide tax support for business initiatives to improve performance/profitability, and ensure the tax position of the Group is optimised. Provision of tax advisory services to Regional and Territory Management on business-driven queries and initiatives, and updates on tax developments and implications for the business.
7. Coordinate regional cash tax forecasting and payment/refund processes for the Group, in particular review of business submissions, understanding variations and recommended adjustments to ensure that the Group position is accurately managed and manage Tax Assistance in relation to the same.
8. Coordination of monthly, quarterly and annual tax reporting and forecasting processes for India and Sri Lanka, including assisting in the review of Year-End tax reporting packs, tax provisions and cash tax forecasts submitted by BUs.
9. Provide tax support for treasury/cash management processes across the region, while ensuring that the Group's tax position is effectively managed and optimised. This includes cash repatriation strategy.
10. Work with local management to ensure that all necessary legal documentation is in place to support any inter-company charges or trading arrangements including the updating of appropriate agreements.
11. Transfer Pricing: Provide guidance and support to the Group Transfer Pricing Director to ensure maintenance of transfer pricing documentation in relation to intragroup relationships for Management Charges, Global Accounts and other group charges such as shared global IT costs and Royalty and technology fees.
12. Transfer Pricing: work with the Group Transfer Pricing Director to ensure implementation of a Bilateral Advanced Pricing Agreement between the Indian and UK tax authorities.
EDUCATION, QUALITIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Education: Qualified Chartered Accountant
- At least 8-10 years' experience in tax work related areas
- Sound knowledge of tax rules and regulations in India
- Big 4 accounting firm experience preferred, along with at least 5 years industry experience
