Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic person to play a pivotal role in driving the growth strategy for our mobile news app. This position has an editorial strategic focus on audience development, retention, experimentation, and engagement.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of mobile user behavior, digital marketing, and product development. This person will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief, product teams, and growth marketers to create and implement strategies that grow our audience and improve retention. You will be responsible for experimenting with new content formats, features, and engagement techniques to optimize the user experience and increase overall app success.

Key Responsibilities:

Editorial Leadership:

- Develop content strategies that align with both editorial goals and growth objectives, focusing on increasing user engagement and time spent on the app.

- Mentor a team of editors and writers, ensuring that content across all categories aligns with our editorial vision and resonates with our mobile audience.

- Monitor news trends and emerging stories, ensuring the platform remains current and competitive.

- Think of content experiments that can be done for growth.

Growth:

- Develop and execute strategies to grow app downloads, active users, and engagement metrics.

- Identify and implement opportunities to increase retention.

- Use data and analytics to identify trends in user behavior, content performance, and engagement, then implement data-driven strategies to improve KPIs.

- Conduct A/B testing and experimentation with new content formats and user engagement features to boost growth.

- Create SEO and social media strategies to drive growth.

Innovation & Experimentation:

- Lead efforts to experiment with new storytelling formats to engage a mobile-first audience.

- Work with the product team to propose and test new app features to enhance the user experience and drive engagement.

- Stay updated on emerging trends in mobile apps, digital content, and audience behavior, and bring new ideas for how to improve the app experience and content strategy.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field.

- 10+ years of experience in digital media, editorial management, or a related field, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role.

- Proven experience in mobile-first digital publishing and understanding of user behavior and content consumption trends on mobile apps.
