Job Description

The role is flexible. Applicants should be authorised to work in India. Applicants will need to have their laptops and access to a functioning internet connection. Currently, we have a flexible mode of operation where we work from home two days a week.

Centre for Social and Behaviour Change (CSBC) was founded by and is part of Ashoka University, Indias leading liberal arts university, supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Since our inception, we have been dedicated to expanding and sharing knowledge and underscoring behavioural sciences role in building public policies that directly impact society. We seek to establish a globally reputed Indian institution, driving behavioural change measures for people and communities in need. We advance the science and practice of behaviour change, harnessing cross-disciplinary expertise to improve outcomes in health, nutrition, gender, education, water and financial inclusion through a mix of behavioural change programmes, foundational research and capability building. For more information, please visit https://csbc.org.in/
The Mainstreaming Behavioral Science in Climate Action program builds on the findings and knowledge of the Low-Carbon Lifestyles (LCL) program (Phase 1). It supports behaviorally-informed climate policies, creates capacity among partners to apply behavioural science to their activities, and establishes Indias leading dedicated research and advocacy program on behavioural change and climate action through developing a robust programmatic strategy. You can find more information about the programme here.
Role and Responsibilities
The associate will contribute across various aspects of building the programme. Specifically, they will lead in the completion of the following activities
Dissemination of Phase 1 research and findings from the Climate Norms Survey
  • Findings from our work under the Phase 1 grant into urban mobility, household electrical consumption, waste management and food consumption will be disseminated to the public through the CSBC website and social media, to policymakers through policy shorts and to key relevant sectoral stakeholders through briefs. We will use media, direct email circulation lists, our website and events to circulate publications. The research team will author the publications.
  • The climate norms survey, conducted under the Phase 1 grant, involved 2,500 participants across major Indian cities, exploring social norms influencing climate-related behaviours in domains such as mobility and climate-related behaviours in domains such as mobility consumption patterns in food and energy and materials. The findings of this survey will be disseminated to various stakeholders and the public through relevant channels.
Leading the integration into the Atlas of Behavioral Change Development (ABCD) platform
  • The ABCD platform is an existing platform created by CSBC and partners, utilising trained AI models to design high-quality behavioural programs by various organisations to enable change at scale. We will curate the climate and behaviour science content, drawing on our existing research. We will codify our existing work on the platform to improve the global reach of our work on the ABCD platform and develop robust content on behaviour science for climate action.
  • A CSBC microsite will be created, focused primarily on the intersection between climate and behavioural science, further to increase the impact of our dissemination and outreach processes. The microsite will showcase the research of Phase 1.
Coordinating Roundtable discussions, fundraising events and grant writing
  • Roundtable discussions on our four major climate domains (mobility, energy, food and waste) will be conducted with various stakeholders, including those in the private sector, McArthur Grantees, donors, NGOs and policy-makers.
