Civil Engineer

As a Civil & Structural Engineer, you ll be skilled in the design and maintenance of civil, storage or marine facilities. Familiar with international civil structural engineering codes and standards in the oil and gas processing industry, you ll participate in concept, design, maintenance and troubleshooting teams. You may also work on project development, screening studies, site selection, concept and feasibility assessments and the production of basic design packages for new projects. You ll be familiar with site selection methods and the assessment of required and existing infrastructure, including the development of an overall civil infrastructure design. This will involve planning layouts, roads, earthworks, water supply and drainage systems. You ll have a good working knowledge of steel and concrete technology, insulation, refractory and fireproof linings, and possess practical skills in the selection and application of paints and coatings. Able to support maintenance and inspection staff at our operating units, you ll be expected to participate in teams with other civil, storage, marine staff, shipping experts, mechanical designers and process technologists to troubleshoot customer issues. Your role will involve the preparation of commercial proposals, technical work, the development of service opportunities and delivery to customers. You ll also manage a range of contractor or outsourcing service alliances. Acting as Global Solutions representative in civil and structural codes, you ll steer future design developments, participate in technical development activities and update civil design and engineering practices. Requirements With a civil engineering BSc or MSC degree or its equivalent you ll have at least 5 years civil and structural engineering experience, preferably in the oil, gas or chemical industries. With knowledge of international civil and structural design codes and standards in the oil and gas processing industry, you ll have the ability to prepare design and detailed specification packages for new project facilities. You ll also have the knowledge to perform fitness-for-service assessment capability for facilities, and provide advice on repair or rejuvenation methods. Your written and spoken English will be excellent, as you ll be required to prepare commercial proposals and marketing information and present conference papers. Knowledge of additional languages would be an advantage. In addition to the responsibilities and requirements outlined above, you may need to perform other tasks as needed. You should also be aware that your work will involve field visits to the Shell Group s other operating companies. This may involve extensive overseas travel and absence from your home for long or short periods.
