Material Planner

Accountabilities

Materials Planning & Coordination:

• Create and maintain a comprehensive procurement schedule, in coordination with the Design and Engineering Team.
• Provide RAS (Required at Site) dates for all procurement items based on stages of the project as decided in the Build Strategy of the project.

Inventory Management:

• Track and update the procurement tracker via follow-up with the Design (Engineering) and Procurement department.
• Ensure materials are stored and organized effectively for easy access and tracking.
• Implement inventory control measures to minimize material wastage, damage, and losses.

Cost Control & Budgeting:

• Track materials costs against the project budget, providing regular updates to the Project Manager on spending and potential cost overruns.
• Support cost-saving initiatives by identifying alternative materials or suppliers without compromising on quality or timelines.
• Provide input for budget planning, forecasting material needs, and assessing cost impacts based on project scope changes.

Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all materials-related activities, including purchase orders, inventory logs, and delivery schedules.
• Generate materials tracking reports and status updates for the Project Manager and senior management, highlighting any potential delays or shortages.
• Ensure documentation compliance with the shipyards standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.

Interactions and Working Relationships

Internal:

• Project Manager - Shipbuilding: Regularly report to the Project Manager on materials status, upcoming needs, and any potential delays affecting the project schedule.
• Head of Planning & Program Management: Provide periodic updates and materials reports as needed to support broader project planning and resource allocation.
• Design (Engineering) and Procurement Team: Collaborate closely to ensure timely sourcing, order placement, and delivery of materials for shipbuilding projects.
• Production & Warehouse Teams: Coordinate with production teams to meet material needs as per schedule and with warehouse teams for efficient inventory management and storage.
• Quality Control Team: Work with the quality control team to ensure materials meet project standards, conducting inspections and addressing quality-related issues.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• Additional certifications in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, or Inventory Control are preferred.

Preferred Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in materials management, inventory control, or supply chain, preferably within shipbuilding, heavy engineering, or manufacturing industries.
• Proven experience in coordinating with cross-functional teams for materials planning and project management.

Functional Competency:

• Materials Management & Planning: Strong knowledge of materials planning, inventory control, and supply chain principles within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze inventory levels, forecast material needs, and manage material flows to meet project requirements.
• Communication & Coordination: Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal teams and stakeholders effectively.
• Problem Solving & Decision Making: Competency in identifying materials-related issues, implementing corrective actions, and making informed decisions.
• Financial Acumen: Understanding of cost control principles and budget tracking to support cost-effective materials management.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in ERP systems, inventory management software, and advanced MS Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
