Job Description: Senior Legal Counsel

Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Legal Counsel to join our team and support our growing fashion brand. This role will involve overseeing legal aspects of retail leasing, managing in-house legal requirements, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards, and liaising with various stakeholders. As we expand our footprint in retail and operations, the ideal candidate will play a critical role in shaping our legal framework while aligning closely with the parent companys legal team.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Retail Leasing and Transactions:
• Manage all legal aspects of retail store leasing, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating MoUs, LOIs, Lease Deeds, ATL/LLA, maintenance contracts, and fit-out agreements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws in retail leasing and store operations.
2. In-House Legal Advisory:
• Serve as the in-house legal advisor for the organization, providing guidance on various legal and compliance matters.
• Draft and negotiate agreements, including vendor contracts, service agreements, and employment-related documents.
• Provide support for dispute resolution and risk mitigation strategies.
3. Compliance Management:
• Ensure alignment with statutory and regulatory requirements applicable to the organization, including labor laws, taxation, licensing, and operational compliance.
• Develop and implement internal compliance policies to ensure adherence to industry standards and organizational goals.
4. Stakeholder Coordination and Liaison:
• Act as a liaison between the company and regulatory authorities, ensuring timely submissions and responses.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including HR, operations, and finance, to ensure seamless compliance and legal support.
• Work closely with the parent company’s legal team to ensure alignment and consistency across legal practices.
5. Documentation and Record-Keeping:
• Oversee the maintenance of all legal documents, including contracts, licenses, and compliance certificates.
• Ensure timely renewal and registration of agreements, permits, and statutory filings.
6. Proactive Problem-Solving:
• Anticipate legal risks and provide innovative, business-oriented solutions to address them.
• Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, contributing to strategic decisions with legal insights.

Skills and Competencies:

• Expertise in contract drafting, negotiation, and review.
• Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, corporate laws, and labor laws.
• Familiarity with retail leasing and real estate laws is a significant advantage.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Effective communication and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage complex legal matters independently.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from a recognized institution; LLM is a plus.
• 7+ years of experience in legal roles, with exposure to compliance management and corporate legal matters.
• Experience in the fashion or retail industry is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
