The Navigational Safety Superintendent is responsible for reviewing the berthing and unberthing maneuvers of Seaspan s entire fleet. The Navigational Safety Superintendent will be required to provide feedback to the Master within one working day for ships not complying with our SMS.
Key Functions:
Is familiar with the Health, Safety Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005) and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, understands his/her duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to his/her manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guideline.
Utilize vessel tracking software such as Marinetraffic.com, OneOcean Fleet Manager, and ORCA AI to analyze vessels historical approaches and departures to/from berths with the pilot onboard to ensure compliance with company procedures, safety culture and best navigational practices.
Review Vessel Passage Plans remotely to ensure compliance with Company s SMS procedures.
Report any serious nonconformities to the master, bridge team, and marine manager, FPD, & DPA and recommend necessary corrective actions to be implemented by the Master and bridge.
Provides input and contributes to overall performance ratings for Masters in partnership with the FPD team.
Will recommend to Marine Manager when to initiate remote navigational audits for serious compliance issues.
Prepare a summary of key navigational issues observed for promulgation to the fleet on a fortnightly basis.
Demonstrates ownership of the organization s safety culture. Ensures appropriate response and reporting to any incidents.
Supports other managers in meeting their objectives.
Carries out regular briefings with Masters virtually to implement high standards of the Seaspan Safe Navigation Policy.
Performs other duties as required.
Requirements:
Minimum 24 months of rank experience as Master.
Possesses keen observation abilities and has clear understanding of safe navigation practices.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Strong interpersonal skills
Results-oriented with excellent planning and organization skills
Ability to communicate effectively in all forms
Additional/Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with container ships engaged in international trading
Familiar with Seaspan Corporation vessels
