Head Electrical and Instrumentation

Job Summary:

The Head of Electrical & Instrumentation will be responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and optimization of electrical systems, instrumentation, and automation within the manufacturing facility. This role ensures uninterrupted power supply, compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and continuous improvement in plant automation to enhance efficiency and reliability.

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. Electrical System Management

• Oversee the design, operation, and maintenance of HT/LT electrical systems, power distribution, transformers, switchgear, MCC, PCC, and UPS systems.
• Ensure reliable operation of motors, VFDs, circuit breakers, and energy management systems.
• Implement energy conservation strategies to reduce electrical consumption and costs.
• Lead initiatives for power factor improvement, load balancing, and harmonic analysis.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety norms as per local regulations.

2. Instrumentation & Automation

• Supervise the maintenance and calibration of process control instruments, including pressure, flow, temperature, and level transmitters.
• Manage PLC, SCADA, DCS, and industrial automation systems for process control and monitoring.
• Drive digital transformation initiatives, including IoT, Industry 4.0, and smart instrumentation.
• Troubleshoot and optimize automation systems to enhance productivity and minimize downtime.

3. Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations for electrical and instrumentation systems in hazardous areas.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures for explosion-proof equipment and intrinsically safe devices.
• Develop SOPs and guidelines for safe electrical and instrumentation practices.

4. Maintenance & Reliability

• Develop and execute preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
• Minimize plant downtime by ensuring quick response to electrical and instrumentation failures.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time to Repair).

5. Project Management & New Installations

• Plan and execute capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects related to electrical, instrumentation, and automation.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of new equipment and systems.
• Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and design consultants to ensure project timelines and budget adherence.

6. Team Management & Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical and instrumentation engineers and technicians.
• Conduct technical training programs to enhance team competency.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the department.

7. Budgeting & Cost Control

• Prepare and manage the annual budget for electrical and instrumentation operations.
• Optimize spare parts inventory to ensure cost-effective maintenance.
• Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or reliability.

8. Vendor & Contractor Management

• Evaluate and approve vendors for electrical and instrumentation equipment.
• Manage contracts for outsourced maintenance and project execution.

Ensure quality control and compliance in procurement and vendor selection.

Preferred candidate profile

15-24 years in electrical & instrumentation maintenance in a chemical, cement, petrochemical, or similar process industry.
