Procurement Specialist- Construction company

Role & responsibilities

The Procurement Specialist will be responsible for managing the sourcing and purchasing of materials, equipment, and services needed for construction projects. This role requires strong negotiation skills, an understanding of construction materials, and the ability to manage supplier relationships effectively and coordination with the project team & Finance and Accounting Head office team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Material & Equipment Sourcing: Identify and evaluate suppliers of construction materials, equipment, and services, ensuring that quality standards are met.
• Supplier Management: Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery schedules with suppliers, ensuring favourable terms and timely deliveries.
• Cost Control: Monitor project budgets and make recommendations for cost-saving initiatives in procurement and supply chain processes.
• Inventory Management: Track stock levels, forecast material requirements, and manage storage and handling of materials on-site.
• Procurement Documentation: Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier performance. Prepare procurement reports and updates for project managers.
• Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure that all procured goods and services meet industry standards, legal requirements, and company policies.
• Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, construction teams, and other stakeholders to ensure timely procurement and smooth operations on-site.
• Logistics Coordination: Coordinate deliveries, ensuring that materials arrive on-site as needed, avoiding delays in construction schedules.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

• Educational Background: Bachelors degree, Master in Business Administration, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Experience: 4+ years of procurement experience, with a strong understanding of the construction industry, including knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and services.
• Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate favorable terms with suppliers and contractors.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to manage complex procurement schedules, inventories, and contracts without overlooking any details.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with suppliers, contractors, and project teams.
• Software Proficiency: Familiarity with procurement software and project management tools.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to assess supply chain challenges and find effective solutions.

Desirable:

• Project Management Experience: Experience with managing procurement within large-scale construction projects.
• Knowledge of Construction Contracts: Familiarity with construction contract law, and terms like BOQs (Bill of Quantities), RFQs (Request for Quotations), and tenders.
• Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of construction processes, including subcontracts, materials, labor, and safety standards.

• Budget Adherence: Ensuring that procurement stays within the project budget and reporting on any deviations.
