Job Description
Position Title: Optometry Superintendent
Department- Medical Administration
Location: Mastichak, Bihar
Reporting To: Medical Director & COO
Objective:
To oversee all academic, clinical, and administrative activities related to optometry at Akhand Jyotis Mastichak campus and training centre. The Optometry Superintendent will ensure the highest optometry education and practice standards while actively engaging in recruitment, manpower planning, and capacity building related to Optometrists & Ophthalmic Assistants to support the hospitals mission.

Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Academic Leadership
• Supervise the academic activities of the optometry training center, including curriculum implementation, teaching methodologies, and student evaluations.
• Ensure alignment of the training programs with industry standards and advancements in optometry.
2. Clinical Oversight
• Oversee the clinical performance of optometry staff and students, ensuring the quality of patient care in refraction, diagnostics, and low vision services.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for optometry-related clinical workflows.
3. Recruitment and Manpower Planning
• Actively participate in the recruitment process for optometrists, including candidate screening, interviews, and selection.
• Develop and implement manpower planning strategies to ensure adequate staffing levels and succession planning.
• Work closely with HR to identify skill gaps and organize upskilling initiatives for the optometry team.
4. Training and Development
• Lead capacity-building initiatives for optometrists, including continuing education programs, workshops, and certifications.
• Mentor optometry staff and students to develop their clinical and academic skills.
• Organize regular Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions to keep the optometry team updated with the latest advancements.
5. Administrative Duties
• Monitor and manage the performance of optometry staff, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and professional standards.
• Prepare and manage budgets for the optometry department and training center.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards for academic programs.
6. Stakeholder Engagement
• Collaborate with hospital leadership, faculty, and external stakeholders to strengthen the optometry program.
• Represent Akhand Jyoti in national and international forums, promoting its optometry initiatives and educational programs.
7. Reporting and Quality Assurance
• Develop and maintain performance metrics for optometry staff and students.
• Prepare periodic reports on department activities, recruitment status, and clinical outcomes for senior management.
• Conduct audits to ensure adherence to quality standards in academic and clinical operations.
Key Result Areas (KRAs):
1. Academic Excellence
• Ensure 90% or higher pass rates for students in optometry programs.
• Update 25% of the curriculum annually to align with industry standards and advancements.
2. Clinical Quality
• Maintain patient satisfaction levels of 90% or above for optometry services.
• Ensure all clinical SOPs are implemented and followed across departments.
3. Recruitment and Manpower Planning
• Recruit at least 10 optometrists annually to meet hospital staffing needs.
• Develop a five-year manpower plan, ensuring adequate staff capacity and succession planning.
4. Training and Capacity Building
• Organize at least four workshops or CME sessions annually for optometry staff.
• Develop a certification program for advanced optometry skills, certifying 30% of the team each year.
5. Operational Efficiency
• Prepare and manage the annual budget for the optometry department with a variance of less than 5%.
• Submit all department performance and recruitment reports within specified timelines.
6. Stakeholder Engagement
• Build partnerships with at least three national or international optometry organizations annually.
• Represent Akhand Jyoti at two or more professional forums or conferences each year.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Education: Master’s degree in Optometry (mandatory); a PhD in Optometry or related fields (preferred).
• Experience: 10+ years of clinical and academic experience in optometry, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Skills:
• Strong leadership, mentorship, and team management skills.
• Expertise in optometry clinical practices, education, and manpower planning.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Hindi is preferred.
• Ability to manage budgets and operational processes effectively.
• Familiarity with national and international optometry standards.
