The Officer Cargo Operations is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the efficient, safe, and compliant handling of cargo. This role involves managing day-to-day cargo activities, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate documentation, and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders to meet operational and customer service objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Cargo Handling & Coordination
Oversee the acceptance, storage, loading, and unloading of cargo.
Ensure proper segregation, labelling, and handling of special cargo (e.g., hazardous materials, perishables).
Monitor cargo movement to prevent damage or loss and maintain quality standards.
Regulatory Compliance
Adhere to local and international regulations, including safety, security, and customs requirements.
Verify documentation such as airway bills, shipping labels, and customs forms for accuracy and completeness.
Stay updated on changes in regulations and guidelines that affect cargo operations.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of cargo shipments, inventory, and related paperwork.
Prepare regular operational and performance reports for management.
Manage discrepancies, delays, or issues, and provide prompt solutions or escalation where necessary.
Collaboration & Communication
Coordinate with internal teams (warehouse staff, ground handling teams, customer service) to ensure smooth operations.
Liaise with external stakeholders such as freight forwarders, customs officials, and transport providers.
Communicate cargo status updates and any issues to relevant parties in a timely manner.
Safety & Security
Enforce strict compliance with safety and security protocols during cargo handling and storage.
Conduct or participate in regular safety audits and risk assessments.
Promptly address any safety concerns or incidents.
Customer Service
Respond to customer inquiries and resolve service issues related to cargo shipments.
Ensure timely and accurate information is provided to clients regarding shipment status and documentation.
Strive to improve customer satisfaction through efficient and reliable cargo operations.
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings.
Recommend and implement process enhancements to improve workflow, quality, and turnaround times.
Participate in training and development programs to stay current with best practices.
