Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: There were 10 candidates in each group and I guess there were around 5 such groups, and all are from chemical engineering department. Group discussion for the GG students were held separately. Duration of the group discussion was only 5 min and so each candidate will get a chance to speak for less than 1-2 min. During the GD I made good conclusion which was also supported by the whole group which gave an added advantage to my points. GD's with my batch mates really helped me because discussing with your friends gives you broader perspective, better understanding of the topics, get to to know your weaknesses, reduce fear and stress during the GD's.The Key is ' be confident, put relevant points and try to convince the group in a smart way'. FInally only 2 students from each group got shortlisted and around 12 students were selected for the final Technical & HR Interview.
Tips: Be updated with the recent topics and better to do some group discussions with your wing mates or batch mates. This really helped me. Do not shout in the GD, put your points in smart way and make a good conclusion... :)
Duration: 5 Min minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: My Interview started with ' Tell me about yourself' and then they grilled me on my internships. I did my third year Intern in Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd. Q1. What are the different types of pumps and their parts? (Centrifugal, positive displacement pumps and their parts) Q2. Different types of valves and their application? (Like gate, globe, butterfly, Non return valves (NRV)- check valves, ball valves etc.) Q3. Calculation of pressure drop through a pipe in turbulent flow (Not hagen poiseuille equation,it is for Laminar flow)
Q4. Pinch temperature Q5. Temperature profiles for cold fluid and hot fluid in cocurrent and counter current heat exchanger. Q6. Advantages of counter current heat exchanger over co current heat exchanger. (Other than LMTD, Check DQ Kern)- Ans. Hot fluid outlet temperature can go below cold fluid inlet temperature in counter current HEx which is not possible in case of co current HEx.
Q7. JT Expansion. MY 4th year internship was in U of S, canada where I developed two processes for manufacturing of glycerol carbonate and propylene glycol using Aspen hysys. They asked me regarding mass, energy balance (utilities) involved in the process and how I applied pinch analysis for the processes.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Aptitude:
Time was short. 3O Qs in 30 minutes was a time-crunch.  As my aptitude is weak, I had put in prior efforts to put up a decent performance. I could solve around 14-15 Qs in that time.

Technical:
50 Qs in 30 minutes. The Qs were fairly on easier side. Just that, Qs spanned all across chemical engineering, with almost equal weightage on all topics. Most Qs were from past years' GATE papers. I attempted around 40 Qs.
Tips: 1. For aptitude, prepare well in advance if you are weak.
2. Strengthen technical by solving MCQs from Indiabix.com
3. Since there are no negatives, go for most Qs.
Duration: 60 minutes

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Overall it is a balanced paperIn aptitude, No of questions is 30 in 30 min. most of the question were easy and mostly they are from topics like work, speed, time, distance, series. Some questions are from English like word meaning, antonym, synonym etc.In technical, no. of questions is 50 in 30 min. The questions were from whole of the chemical engg like from thermo, mass, heat, cre but not from process control or instrumentation or from chemical technology. Most of the questions were conceptual and are just theoretical.
Tips: For apti, try to solve questions from www.indiabix.comFor technical, brush up ur conceptual knowledge and try to learn more and more of mass, heat, themo and cre.
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 80

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Overall my interview experience is good. I gave around 70 percent of the answers. My interview is purely technical but it was not so with my friend. His interview is 90% HR.So u never know what type of interview u r going to face when u walk in there. In my interview the questions were mostly asked from thermodynamics and its applications.
Tips: Be calm and confident.Try not to get nervous.Never try to attempt the questions of which u don't know the answers. Attempting those questions and thereafter not giving answers properly gives a bad impression.

General Tips: As I previously told try to remain calm and not get nervous. If u do so no one can take that job from u.And by chance u don't get selected, then do not get disheartened and just think about ur mistakes and try to improve them as U are the best judge of yourself.
Skill Tips: Do not get nervous in the interview.Do not try to solve the whole technical paper rather go through it and attempt the questions u think u can do.For improving communication skill, try to communicate with ur friends in English. Read newspaper and communicate with urself in mirror ( this method will particularly help u a lot in improving ur communication skills and will also free u from any kind of presentation fears).

Motivation: yeah RIL is a very good company, very large and with a lot of scope. So just go for it as if u want to build ur repo then it is one of the best platform to do so.
Funny Moments: one of my friend got injured before the interview. So when he entered for the interview,HR saw his hand and asked what happened. So he hold HR that he got slipped on stairs. After that HR said to him "khudko ko sambhal nhi pa rhe company ko kya sambhaloge".. So try not to lose ur senses if u face such kind of things .They just purposely do that to check how u can perform under pressure. And that friend of mine was also selected for the job.

I applied via Campus Placement and was interviewed in Dec 2016. There were 4 interview rounds.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test consists of two sections. First section is Aptitude and it has 30 questions (30 minutes). This section has questions on numerical ability, logical reasoning and verbal ability. Each question carries 2 marks and no negative marks. Second section is technical section and this section has 50 questions and each one carries 1 mark (30 minutes). For mechanical engineering stream, the questions were asked mainly from materials science, strength of materials. Remaining questions were asked from other core subjects. All the technical questions were theoretical questions and no problem solving.
Tips: Briefly touch up all the core mechanical subjects and you will be through the test.
Duration: 1 hour

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: Firstly, a form was given before the interview. In the form, they asked us to fill all our bio data, projects we have done and some basic HR questions. There's only one interviewer. The first question was "Tell me about yourself". He asked based on what we have written in the form. He asked about my goals, role model and also about the company. He mostly checked whether I am interested in the company or not.
Feedback from others - Projects, Interns and technical questions on material science.
