A R&D Trainee was asked
Q. What is an oxidation reaction?
Ans.

Oxidation reaction is a chemical reaction that involves the loss of electrons by a substance.

  • It is a process in which a substance combines with oxygen or loses hydrogen.

  • It results in an increase in the oxidation state of the substance.

  • Examples include rusting of iron, combustion of fuels, and metabolism of food in the body.

  • It is the opposite of reduction reaction.

  • It is important in various fields such as chemistry...

A R&D Trainee was asked
Q. What is the pinacol-pinacolon reaction?
Ans.

Pinacol-pinacolon reaction is a type of organic reaction that involves the conversion of a pinacol to a pinacolone.

  • In this reaction, a carbon-carbon bond is broken and a new carbonyl group is formed.

  • The reaction is catalyzed by an acid catalyst such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid.

  • The reaction mechanism involves the formation of a carbocation intermediate.

  • The pinacol-pinacolon reaction is an important reacti...

  • They are highly reactive and corrosive

  • Examples include hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid

A R&D Trainee was asked
Q. What is a weak acid?
Ans.

A weak acid is an acid that only partially dissociates in water, resulting in a lower concentration of hydrogen ions.

  • Weak acids have a pH value greater than 3.5

  • They have a lower degree of ionization compared to strong acids

  • Examples of weak acids include acetic acid (vinegar), citric acid (lemons), and carbonic acid (soda)

A R&D Trainee was asked
Q. What are the reaction and mechanisms of the Beckmann rearrangement?
Ans.

The Beckmann reaction is a chemical reaction that involves the conversion of an oxime into an amide.

  • The reaction is typically carried out using acid catalysts, such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid.

  • The reaction proceeds through a rearrangement of the oxime to form an isocyanate intermediate, which then reacts with water to form the amide.

  • The Beckmann reaction is commonly used in the synthesis of pharmaceutica...

A R&D Trainee was asked
Q. Blood composition in body
Ans.

Blood composition refers to the different components present in blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma.

Why are women still asked such personal questions in interview?
I recently went for an interview… and honestly, m still trying to process what just happened. Instead of being asked about my skills, experience, or how I could add value to the company… the questions took a totally unexpected turn. The interviewer started asking things like When are you getting married? Are you engaged? And m sure, if I had said I was married, the next question would’ve been How long have you been married? What does my personal life have to do with the job m applying for? This is where I felt the gender discrimination hit hard. These types of questions are so casually thrown at women during interviews but are they ever asked to men? No one asks male candidates if they’re planning a wedding or how old their kids are. So why is it okay to ask women? Can we please stop normalising this kind of behaviour in interviews? Our careers shouldn’t be judged by our relationship status. Period.
