3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There was a section on data interpretation which was for 15 minutes or so and was only to test how fast you could grasp a new thing. Then there was a section on number series which was fairly simple followed by one on quantitative maths. All of these were part of the first round of written test out of which around 100 people were shortlisted.

Round: Test
Experience: The second round was technical with 2 sections, the first one being basically for-loops and flowcharts. Questions were time consuming and there was always a shorter method. Second section involved concepts of networking and operating system. After this round 38 people were shortlisted for interview.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This interview mostly consisted of operating systems, data structure and C.He first took a brief intro and after that asked me the subject which i was best at. I would advice you to say anything except operating system because I made that mistake and he went so deep that the only thing i could do was comprehend the question because solving it was way beyond me (the question was involving system threads). Anyways i could still answer some of the questions in operating system like how to generate file descriptors in the best possible manner, then an output of a code was asked which involved concepts of heap, stack and pointers. Then he moved to data structure where he asked one question regarding nearest neighbours and we had a lengthy discussion on this one.
I had a really nice experience especially the interview because it was more of a discussion rather then then question and answers. The person who took my interview later told me that he himself did not know the answer to the question and what he was interested in was my approach. The interview lasted for 2 hours and besides being exhausting it was fun too.
Tips: I would just like to advice that these people are not looking for answers but the ; path you choose, basically your approach. So whatever you think, speak aloud and let them know your approach; that's because if your thinking on thewrong lines,  they will correct you and hint towards the right one. So make use of them,

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Initially there was a general written aptitude test. It consisted of 3 sections. No technical questions at all, just to check your IQ. Questions were not difficult but time was very limited. Each section has to be attempted in the same sequence..1st section consisted of 20 Q on matrices. There were few matrices(5x5, 6x6 etc.), each of them consisted of some numbers and alphabets and few Q on them such as swapping the rows and columns, locating rows n columns satisfying certain conditions(time - 13 min). NO Negative marking2nd section consisted of 20 questions(time - 4 min). on number series..like what no.comes next in the given pattern etc..3rd section was mathematical quant. It consisted of 15 ques(time - 15 min). The last two sections had NEGATIVE MARKING.So,be careful.
Tips: Attempt all Q in I section ad attempt only the ones you know in the last 2 sections.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The Process is done in 3 steps:1.First 10 min, everyone gave their opinion about the topic2.The Mid 10 min..we had the actual discussion about the topic3.In the end ,the conclusion was drawn by each one of us..
Tips: Take a piece of paper and pen to jot down important points about the topic. They test for basic communication skills in this round.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: My technical interview went on for 30 minutes.First he checked my resume. He mainly concentrated on projects. My project being on NETWORKS...he asked a couple of questions related to NETWORKS..then he asked me about cloud computing. I explained him everything..
Tips: Be thorough with your projects. For this round,be thorough with BASICS like C,OS,DBMS,OOPS.....Have a little knowledge about current technologies like Cloud Computing etc..

Round: HR Interview
Experience: My HR went on for 30-45 min. For me,it was the most difficult round of all.First Question was "Tell about Yourself". Just talk about yourself, your  education, achievements, family background, your pros, cons etc..Then comes the actual test. He asked all kinds of possible questions that can be asked in a HR.What was basically tested is 'will u stick to the company' and 'Can you withstand in all kinds of situations ?'
Tips: Just make him believe that you'll stick to the company and that you can withstand the corporate world..Be patient while answering all questionsFinally ask a few Questions from PPTor about company/ kind of work,. This shows your interest in the company

General Tips: Just know about your PROJECTS VERY WELL.Be Confident, have some basic communication skills, basic subject knowledge and be patient.Show interest in the company..You'll easily get through...All you need is a little luck on that day, put your talent, use your skills and crack the JOB.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Out of 50 people who appeared for the test,  only 5 people were shortlisted- 2 from cse and 3 from ece.
SEC 1: 20 questions on quantitative ability. It consisted of questions on cubes, logical reasoning, sets, venn diagrams, 'statement 1 is correct or statement 2 or both'  type of questionsSEC 2: There were questions on data structures and file commands like rewind, fseek etc..SEC 3: There were 15 questions on operating system concepts, unix commands and networkingSEC 4: There were questions on overloading, object oriented programming, pure virtual function, inheritance, pointers.
Duration: 120 minutes
Total Questions: 75

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: They asked me lots of questions on c, pointers, questions like what is volatile, register, extern, macro, inline function, typedef, enum and static const char* const*char difference.Proper knowledge of c is very essential. Then they asked data structures questions. Those were very easy. Then they asked me bytecode in java how and where it is used, java virtual machine functionality, why it is platform independent, padding in structures....then they asked about real time operating systems...unix and real time what is the difference, what is the scheduling algorithm used in unix and windows, in which operating system priority scheduling is used...what is memory leak, when do we get segmentation fault...what is semaphore, ptherad mutex, what is leakymemory, fork system call how is address space copied, what is 3 way handshake protocol, ipsec, digital signature, rsa, public key cryptography, If you have100 mb RAM, how will u write a program so that the system crashes? Just allocate with malloc size greater than 100.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: General questions were asked. Like, where r u from? Why do u want to join HP?What achievements have u done to prove that you are good at coding...i don't know why companies ask this question...I guess they are looking for someachievements...Then he asked me where my dad works and general HR questions.
Tips: Communication skills is essential.

General Tips: If you are interested only in package only then don't sit for HP. You might get a higher package in a new company but the problem is that it might not send you an offer letter or make you sit on the bench just giving you salary, which automatically increases the chances of sacking u.
I got my first normal job around august when the placements initially started but then after a long time of wait. I sat for about 12 to 13 interviews and got rejected in all of them.So please do not lose hope. Wait for right opportunities  and grab yourchance and do not get frustrated.
College Name: NIT WARANGAL
Motivation: HP has a brand name. The work profile for me is R&D in Image Processing. Though the pay package is less, if you perform well, you will definitely get a hike.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The written test was pretty much simple. It was in 2 parts:1. MCQs and 2. Coding. In MCQs, there were questions on only Data Structures and Algorithms. In the coding part, there were 15 questions of coding and debugging.
Duration: 75 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: It was conducted in 2 rounds. Students selected in round 1 were interviewed for the second round.Questions included:1. Design a File System based on some corresponding database where from you can query (using SQL) and get the same output as you would have got from the data base and then transform the result in XML. He asked me to present an abstract design not very detailed. I drew block diagrams and explained it to him.2. Write a C++ program to shuffle a given record stored in a file so that the resulting output is random. Optimize it so that each time the program produces a different output.3. Suggest a database table structure having 3 entities:a. Flight typeb. Flight No.c. PilotsThere could be millions of flight type. Each type may contain several flight numbers. A pilot can fly several types of flights. There will be queries like return all the flight nos. flown by a given pilot or no. of pilots flying a given type of flight.
Tips: Question in the technical interviews were mainly design and development based rather than subject specific. The interviewer was mainly looking for your thought process, how you comprehend the problem at hand and your reasoning.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HR interviewer asked me some typical HR questions:Favorite subjects? Hobbies? Why do you want to join our company. Why do you think you are creative? (Because i said earlier i was creative)Why do you want to go for development? What is your biggest regret in life?Other than this which company did you sit for?Why weren't you selected in that company?(Answer this very carefully!)Then they asked me to ask them any questions to them. I asked them about the work culture, what kind of projectsWill I b working on, how are the hierarchies in the company, the best product of the company etc.

General Tips: Since it is a Data Integration company, a sound concept of Data warehouse is advised though i wasn't asked any question on that. Java and JDBC were also asked for my friends. f  you have done some application or webproject, that would be of great help. All the best.
