Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Written test contains 2 papers - one subjective and one objective, each of 30 marks. Objective contains 10 questions each of 3 marks and there is negative marking. Subjective contains 3 questions each of 10 marks. In objective, there will be questions on algorithms, operating system and predicting the output of C codes (this time they gave python code) and a few questions on aptitude. In subjective, one question will be to write a full working code in C. The next will be to write on test cases for the problem specified and last one will be a design problem. Coding questions, mainly data structure problems in linked list and trees (code to be written on copy). Question will be from your area of interest.
Tips: In objective, never ever attempt a question, if unsure, as there is negative marking. In subjective, cross check the code for any logical or syntatic error. Please write a working code. If you have time, write comments. While writing test cases, cover each and every possibility specified in the problem. Write in a neat and clean manner. In a design
problem, study the question carefully. Don’t miss any design issue or point.
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 30

Round: Other Interview
Experience: It will be the first round of interview and each round is an elimination round.
Tips: Don’t jump to a solution immediately. Accept it if you have seen the problem earlier. Think before you speak, pay attention on complexity of the problem in terms of space and time, review your code by yourself and only then, show it to the interviewer. Don’t make logical errors in code, otherwise it will be a problem. Look for better solutions with good complexity. Most important think aloud, which means speak while thinking. so that interviewer may know what you are thinking and he can give you help. MOST IMPORTANT :- Whatever you say, you must be able to prove it.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This round will also focus on your coding skill. Again, question will be from your area of interest and coding in C. The problem’s toughness level will increase. The expected question will be from dynamic programming and back tracking.
Tips: While solving dynamic programming question, don’t make any assumptions. Ask a lot of questions, get your doubts cleared and then start solving the question. Think aloud, if you get stuck, you may ask for a hint to solve the problem. Never give up, keep on trying to solve question.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This will be the last interview, with the senior most member of team. In this round, one or two coding questions are given but the main one will be the design question. Design question means the problem statement will be given to you. You have to design the solution to it and then code it.
Tips: Ask a lot of questions in the design part. Get your doubts cleared about the scenario. Don’t land up with any solution which is impossible to code there.

Skill Tips: Above 7.0 CGPA is required.
Skills: C, C++

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: ITC usually does case GDs. The cases are fun and pretty interesting. You would be in a group of 8-10 people and you would be given a case on which your group has to come to a conclusion in 30 mins. In our case the GD centred around a village. Where the village was facing a lot many challenges with industries shutting down, people deserting the village etc. And most of them had the root cause to the lack of power. And so the group had to come to a conclusion as to which source of energy would be the best feasible for the village based on certain things that were mentioned there in the case,
Tips: GD there are three tips: - Either start the discussion if you know the topic well. - Or play the role of a moderator and quip in with some important points- Or succinctly summarise all the points everyone mentioned and conclude them in a beautiful way explaining the direction in which the group inclines if you do not have much information on the topic. It is pretty important that the group reaches to a consensus.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Interview
Experience: ITC conducts interviews way early on Dec 1. Typically around 6:30 am the interviews start. So I was pretty exhausted by being on a stretch of 3 night outs with MTP report submission, MTP presentation, and then all tests and GDs for companies. On Nov 30th as well the interviews and Gds started and it was going on till Dec 1 5 am for me. Then ITC interview was at 7 am in the morning. Interviewers were 5-7 years experienced people. Questions were related to my internship and some core courses. I answered internship related questions well. Screwed up once on a technical question. Usually they would start with one concept and then grill you in depth to understand your expertise in that.
Tips: - Brush up your core concepts- You should be thorough with your internship stuff

Round: Interview
Experience: The HR interviewers were 25 years experienced. Pretty chill people. Asked me questions around why ITC and why not a startup ? etc.Pretty usual set of questions.
Tips: Be calm. Read 64 interview questions pdf. Usually available on institute LAN

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: CV Submission
Experience: This is an elimination phase, so it's important that your CV puts you in a good light. BCG would most likely conduct a CV building workshop. If they don't, McKinsey would.
Tips: Keep in touch with seniors and get their advice and opinions too. Make sure you're happy with your final CV, and that it has been okay-ed by enough people before you ship it out.Don't make your CV on the last day. Put in sufficient effort - it will pay off.

Round: case workshop
Experience: BCG conducts a case workshop a couple of weeks before the interview process starts.Since the interview is entirely case based, make sure you pay attention in the case workshop.
Tips: Also, it is advisable to form groups of 3-6 members with whom to practice business cases. I would suggest that you start with your case preparation in advance of the workshop, so you have things in perspective by then. Case books to practice cases from would most likely be circulated in advance. It also helps to make up your own cases, and have cases administered to you by people in Consulting.Do ask good questions in the case workshop. Although it's non-evaluative, it pays to make a good impression straight off the cuff.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: Four interviews (2 rounds with 2 interviews each). Out of the 21 shortlisted candidates, 12 made it to round 2. Out of the four interviews, one was with a Senior Partner, two with Team Leads, and one with a Principal. My first case was about optimizing the transportation logistics of a cement manufacturer. The second case was about figuring out the issue with the business model of a hotel franchise experiencing falling revenues. The third case was about figuring out the reason for falling revenues of a retail outlet in Sri Lanka. The fourth case was about troubleshooting a new house-loan sales strategy, which was not performing up to expectation.Same set of skills as mentioned above. Make sure you're clear in what you say.
Tips: There will be some minimal HR, which you must prepare for. The discussion will be a lot more informal than you would expect, but make sure your answers are crisp, sharp and to the point. Feel free to be exploratory and creative, making sure you're telling the interviewer exactly what you're thinking. They'll be at least as smart as you are (trust me on this), and it won't take much effort on your part to explain what you're thinking. Work with him/her. This is important. Don't be too slow or too fast. Develop a style based on your practice sessions, and play your strengths.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Curriculum vitae submission
Experience: Only an initial shortlist of around 30 students was done based on CV.
Tips: Mention your academic credentials, math/statistics based work done (if any).

Round: Test
Experience: It consisted of two subjective questions based on probability theory and some common understanding of credit card division (like 'What is score card?'). Students were free to ask any specifics in the questions. One question was solely based on conditional probability and the second one was intuitive with general probability fundamentals.Quantify your results, don't leave them halfway through. State your assumptions clearly.

Duration: NA minute
Total Questions: 2

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: 10 students were shortlisted. The interview started with a general overview of the CV and common questions like 'Why American Express?". Then they discussed about my project and internship, why I opted FRM and why I did not apply for higher studies. It concluded with a case study question on credit card division and a puzzle.
Tips: Practice puzzles and case study questions. One must have good communication skills.Have a good understanding of your projects, especially if it is based on statistics/quant/pattern recognition. The people who come for interview know their stuff very well.

General Tips: At one point of time, the interviewer himself was trying to convince me that Iam better suited for the profile offered by Nomura because of my interest in finance. Luckily,I had done some good background study of the company and stated a few facts about thefirm which made them realize that my FRM is also a very good asset for their credit carddivision as it involved credit risk management. It was a very peaceful/friendly interview. Beconfident with your resume and use the hints they give you during the case interview.

Tips: A few days of preparation from standard material(available both online and on DC++) is enough to clear the test.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: It was a 30-45 minutes interview. Part of the interview was focused on my CV - i.e. projects and internships. Next, they tested my knowledge of a (any one) programming language, which was pretty thorough. Towards the end, they asked about a few small; simple stuff like 'reversing a string' and 'detecting cycles in a linked list.‟ Do not bluff if you do not know an answer. Try deducing it from counter questions.
Tips: Make sure you brush up the fundamentals. Do not bluff if you do not know an answer. Try deducing it from counter questions.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This was a 45 minute interview focusing solely on algorithms. Most people got only 1 problem to solve. For 30 minutes, they made us work through the problems. If solved correctly, they asked a few simple puzzles at the end.
Tips: The problem may seem daunting at the beginning. The best tactic is to keep asking questions to the interviewer until your understanding is clear.

General Tips: Though open to all, they were looking for people with strong background in development, particularly web development. Courses in algorithms and database systems definitely help.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: Typically for any top tier management consulting firm there is a resume shortlist followed by interviews. Generally, these firms shortlist around 30-40 candidates. After shortlists there was telephonic round where candidates were judged on case interviews. The first interview was more of a guesstimate where I was mostly checked on my numbers. Its always better to be a little slow rather than incorrect. The second case was a long business case which lasted for an hour or so. The interviewers look for objectivity in candidates approach while solving such problems.
Tips: Try to convert the interview into a conversationNever be wrong in your calculations, it leaves a bad impressionSpeak out loud whatever you are thinkingBe objective in your approachPractice Case Interviews with peers - IIM A,B casebooks, Wharton Casebook, Case in point

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: These were final round of interviews where candidates were judged solely on the base of case interviews. The first case was more of a numbers case followed by a more business oriented problem.
Tips: Same as I have mentioned for the first roundAlso I would advise you to be extremely confident during the interview Good communication skills is a must for any management consulting firms.

General Tips: Be confident always even you screw up somewhere in the middle.
