This is a stable Govt job. U can get away doing no work at all. But in that case you may be shifted to a nonfunctional department ( Your salary will be the same though). Family life will be great, as long as you are able to keep them with you. Salary and benefits are better than similarly scaled State Govt jobs of WB. Theres scope for a lot of extra curricular activities, like sports and cultural activities.

Salary is much low if you compare with power station jobs in rest of India. The Power stations near Kolkata (Bandel, Kolaghat)are old and ailing. Hence be prepared to spend your life in some of the remotest locations of West Bengal, where other plants are located. If you have a working spouse who cannot relocate or are planning to marry someone like that, then please reconsider your decision of joining this company. You will not be able to lead a proper family life as there is simply no scope of opting transfer. Schooling facility is practically non existent in Santaldih and Sagardighi Thermal Power stations. Employee growth, Recognition of hard work, appraisal etc. do not exist in this company. Top Management is run by ex NTPC officers/ officers from other reputed organizations as the State Govt is well aware of the poor quality of its own employees and how they they will falter if they are placed in positions of power.

The scope of self learning as a fresher is huge, however the more self learning you will do, the higher this organization will exploit you, on the other hand you will notice that people without any contribution to the organization are enjoying the similar or even higher benefits than a person, who is really giving his/her sincere & best efforts, as performance in this organization is not ben valued and acknowledged by the management and due to job security, there are people who do not bother about doing even their regular jobs.

Almost everything, starting from poor management, no visionary leadership, poor pay package, poor employee benefit (especially to the engineers), no effort to retain talents and acquisition of fresh talents, tremendous political influence and intervention, zero recognition to the real achievers/talents, poorly managed HR Department, No Career progression for Engineers and stagnation in career, tremendous exploitation of engineers, Leaving the job will awfully land you with zero benefit even after 19 years of service, no respect for engineers and treating them like bonded labourers.
