No Salary Discussion in My Appraisal — What’s Your Experience?
In my appraisal meeting, they didn’t ask or discuss my expectations about my salary or hike percentage. The entire discussion was only about feedback and performance review. After the meeting, I asked why they didn’t allow me to share my expectations or reveal my hike numbers. They told me that the hike numbers would be decided only by the owner and then they would inform me. I feel an appraisal meeting should include open discussion about both performance and future expectations. What are your thoughts? Does this happen in your company too?

Resigning from this company is itself a painful process. While the official notice period is mentioned as 60 days, it can be extended further if you're considered a "critical resource" - but in reality, this just means they can't find a replacement with the same caliber. There is no transparency, and your exit becomes entirely dependent on their mood and convenience. In the beginning, you may find a few genuinely good colleagues who genuinely try to guide you, help you settle down, and explain how to manage the daily chaos. But sadly, even these few good people are only temporary support — they too are constantly searching for better opportunities because they realize how toxic the environment is, and most of them end up leaving within a few months. After they leave, you are left alone to deal with colleagues who are openly abusive, racist, and highly discriminatory. Discrimination happens based on your ethnicity, the area you come from, and your job position. Overall, the environment is highly unsafe, unhealthy, and completely unprofessional for anyone who expects basic respect and fairness at work.

I joined this organization with high hopes, especially because of the product quality and brand name. However, the reality of working here is far from what is promised during interviews and in the job description. You are hired to manage marketing and sales on online marketplaces, but soon you are burdened with logistics, procurement, finance, and every other operational task that ideally should have separate dedicated teams. The lack of role clarity is shocking — responsibilities are assigned and changed based on management’s moods rather than structured planning. Timings are rigid — if you arrive even a minute late after 10:15 AM, you lose half a day's leave. However, if you leave at the official closing time (6:30 PM), you are openly taunted and made to feel guilty. Your Managers (Incompetent to Manage Anything) expect you to stay back unnecessarily to complete last-minute tasks which arise due to their own mismanagement, not because of your lack of effort. There is a constant blame game across departments. Instead of solving problems or improving processes, the energy is spent on finding someone to blame. The tone and language used in internal communications are extremely unprofessional and for toning down each other - something I had never experienced even while handling major escalations in my previous organizations. The upper management lacks vision. On one hand, they talk about limiting SKUs, but on the other hand, new categories and products are launched every month without any structured GTM or supply plan. Cross-functional alignment is almost nonexistent. Another big issue is the misleading performance bonus structure. During hiring discussions, they proudly talk about a performance bonus program and mention it in the offer letter, making it look like a huge opportunity. You might ask for a 30% increase, but they will inflate it to 70% to make the total CTC look attractive with extra variable sections. Naturally, you believe in your hard work and past achievements, and you trust you can achieve it - and you are not wrong about your capability. But in reality, if you are extremely lucky, you might receive 20% or less of what was promised. Why? Because key departments like logistics, category, and finance work in silos, focusing only on their own KPIs without collaborating with sales teams. They fail to realize that their basic role is to create a foundation for sales success, whether online or offline. Without collaboration, sales targets become impossible to meet, and you are left suffering despite your best efforts. Hiring decisions are questionable - many team members were hired for roles they had no prior experience in, and performance marketing and category management are being handled by individuals who themselves are still learning the basics. Career progression is another concern. Regardless of your experience, you might end up reporting to an inexperienced fresher with a fancy degree but no real-world knowledge, hired only because they graduated from a Tier 1 college. Your skills and contributions are not valued here. Attrition is extremely high. Many talented people leave within a year after realizing that the environment is neither conducive to personal growth nor professional learning. Bottom Line: While the product portfolio is impressive, the internal management is chaotic and toxic. If you value your skills, career growth, mental peace, and fair recognition for your work, think twice before joining.
