The Project management cell is not employee friendly. Makes the simplest of things difficult and tangle you in unnecessary bureaucracy.

If you are getting permanent position in NCCS, then only go for. In project position they don't consider you as human specially women PI. Administrative staff is good, but you are not going to work with them. Please check under which PI you will be working, If he/she toxic, avoid to join.

NCCS is a really nice place to work. It's one of the most cost-efficient buildings you will find. Choosing the right lab is very very important, not all labs are good. Lots of interaction opportunities with people of various backgrounds. I really like the seminars and talks they organize. Good mess management. Language is never a barrier. Facilities especially animal house is one of the best, very well organized, a thing I really really liked. They really take care of their student's concerns and finances.

Lab politics, work-life balance is not that good, career support depends on the PI (many don't even care and misunderstand their own students), lots of unnecessary gossips among people, internal student seminars are not that helpful. Admin is slow.

It has multiple avenues of exposure to have a career in R&D to begin with. Work culture differs with various labs and the scientists that you are working under. Management-wise, the place needs a lot of improvement although change seem to be coming even if slowly.

There is no space left for personal life. There have been times when I have worked for three weeks continuously without offs and still not gotten very far with my work due to personal or professional obstacles. Offs whether religious or for personal reasons can be tedious to haggle with. Overall, it can be tricky to deal with.
