The Directorate of Institute of Preventive Medicine, Public Health Labs. & Food (Health) Administration had its origin dating back to the year 1870 when a Plague Depot was established in the year present premises during the regin of HEH, the nizam to control plague. Thereafter, Central Public Health Laboratories to analyze food, drugs and water samples were established in the year 1904. Influenza H1N1 -(L4) (Regional Reference Laboratory) status has been given to this department under IDSP for the surveillance of avian influenza. This Laboratory is catering to the needs of the both states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and this department is designated as National Measles Laboratory by W.H.O and gives laboratory support for handling Measles & Rubella out breaks in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This Laboratory got 96% score in the recent annual accreditation by W.H.O.
