...The company provides all salary, health benefits and is transparent about it. (i) Salary benefits: At par with industry standards. Most people here are from top schools (like IITs and IIMs) and get paid as per industry standards. (ii) Health benefits: While the health benefits are provided as per company norms, nothing can match the help and support from the closely knit team members when you are down with any health issue (be it follow-ups with doctors, providing home cooked food etc.). (iii) Leave benefits: In Illumine, leaves can be taken as per standard company policies. Also in case of emergency or any unavoidable life event, the company does not force any loss of pay. They are more human centric than policy centric. (again as long as the person does not take advantage of them) etc. There are many hidden benefits that an individual gets in Illumine such as (i) Benefits of making a meaningful impact to the world/ society (in a world where most work is meaningless) (ii) Benefits of learning and evolving faster from peers and seniors (in a world where most companies focus on extracting human resources) (iii) Benefits of working with a highly energized collective & extremely passionate set of people - motivating and pushing you to succeed (in a world where offices are driven by politics) etc.

Illumine has given me the platform to fulfill my long-held career aspiration of creating impact on lives of children and youth, and working towards the purpose of bringing in a change in the education field. To find an organization so aligned to your passion and career goals is extremely rare and am grateful for it. The work itself involves constantly engaging with growth-oriented values, universal ideals, positive mindsets and thinking habits and creating knowledge tools, products and programs that help people translate and apply it in their lives. It makes working each day truly a joy. Even today after 10 years, I feel the same child-like joy and newness that I felt in my initial years as every project brings in something new, a new critical and important challenge to be solved! When am engaged in work my mind is continuously in a positive state, and work itself is like meditation. It has played a great role in my mental health and dealing with personal life circumstances with strength. These ideas have slowly but steadily entered me and helped me live life better, become more accepting and respectful person. Through the work I have developed deep faith in my own abilities, self-confidence to accomplish challenging goals, commitment to excellence in quality of work and interactions with others and lot more. The culture is very empowering if you love challenges and value rapid capacity building. It is mainly about making things happen in each project; and growing in capacity via apprenticeship or learning by doing. Senior practitioners identify your unique strengths and offer work most aligned to it so you develop in it and give your best. The soft culture is also employee-friendly - transparent, no politics, care and consideration to your unique family conditions and needs, adequate paid leaves, no cuts made for sickness, salaries on time, food and travel allowances if overtime work for client deadlines, extremely safe for women (who are in majority here).

Dislikes

This is not a dislike but a genuine concern and clarification of misconceptions that everyone needs to be aware of. It is a very demanding place for people who see work just as a means of living and try to get jobs done functionally. From my experience, it is impossible to do a great job and meet the project outcomes, unless you dive deep and struggle with finding answers and hence is demanded of each person here. So even those who are high in functional expertise but without that burning desire to contribute and make things happen are unable to adjust to this work culture. It is not about demand in terms of no. of hours of work but the quality of thinking and rigor expected. Also there is an assumption that you are expected to work long hours. But it is definitely not the case. I never work late unless out of my own choice. If I anticipate that I will be unable to do something in the timeline and find myself overloaded, I immediately ensure someone else does the work and it gets done. As long as I own the outcomes, it is not expected ever that I stress and work like crazy. I am the master of my time. If I need to leave early for personal engagements, I organize work accordingly. It is an important factor for success at Illumine, and am proactively helping all new joinees to develop in this regard.

If you are ok to work for late hours every day, also able to do late hours on Saturdays. Work on holidays or even when you are unwell or sacrifice on family needs then this is the place for you

Everyone is pretty open & accessible including the CEO. Hardly has an office politics to grow up the ladder since there are no ladders. Each can pave their own path. Immense opportunities to work on innovative ideas, and easy to switch roles & try new things if one wishes to.

6 days working, often expected to work 7 days. If you don't work post 7pm or on Sundays, the growth opportunities are very limited. Very hypocritical - they don't walk the talk, label people easily. They don't trust people easily, and hence engagements with partners are very transactional. Tacitly, everyone is expected to live a moral code, but hardly anyone does. Business approach wise, quite orthodox and not new-gen. Not agile. Too much into ideas. No benefits. Although 10+ employees, there is no gratuity
