...s they have no manpower - no faculty wants to join .Even those who come ,leave . The salary paid is pathetic (around 85000/- per month for a Senior resident (freshly passed out MD/DNB ) .The work culture is horrendous. There is a lady professor who shouts at Junior residents in the hallway. She has passed insulting remarks against the Senior residents who came here before due to which they have left, only those who have a lot of Sifaarish (Influential) will be spared her rant , tells a lot about her upbringing in childhood. The HOD is incompetent to the core and the residents are made scape goats for his incompetence . The HOD blatantly takes sides with the other departmental consultant who arrive in the Department for discussion (e.g like Neurosurgery , OBG ) rather than supporting the Junior Resident. The behaviour of former Neurosurgery consultants (now working in AIIMS Bathinda, both being sorry excuses of Super-Specialist from AFMC, pathetic behaviour for an armed forces super spec graduate & Sree Chitra Tirunal ) was pathetic especially when they came for discussion . The HOD takes the side of OBG department , especially if it belongs to his wife's unit. Apparently this institute has a peculiar employment protocol , where the wife is one department and husband in another . Same goes with the loud mouth lady Professor who's husband is in Orthopedics Department . The adjacent department of Radiotherapy is another place where the HOD is a "certified psychopath" who picks a fight every other day with technician, Junior residents . Hell , I have seen him fight verbally and physically with the office staff as well. Had this been the UK General Medical Council or any other corporate hospital he would have lost his licence to practice for his behaviour .He is mentally unfit to be a doctor , he cries all of a sudden , laughs and starts shouting , apparently he has a lot of political clout behind him .Apparently this fellow has a case in Vigilance Department registered against too . There are allegations of him forcing patients to undergo chemotherapy. He warrants a mention as the radiotherapy department sends a hell lot of cases as the investigations are free / subsidized under the Chief Minister of Punjab scheme. There is a visiting professor in Radiology who was the former HOD , and I have heard stories about her that she used to abuse the child of junior resident especially when she asked for leave when her child was sick . She never gives leaves to residents when she was head although DNB permits 30 days of CL per year excluding public holidays and Sundays. Apparently now these conditions have improved since she left and now that she 'visits' as a visiting professor. The Professor in Radiology especially the HOD hardly signs a report which is the only thing a radiologist does . He just shirks away from responsibility . HOD is a hypocrite where in he never signs off reports but expects all the reports to be done inside without sending on teleradiology . How is it possible for Junior residents who do night duty every alternate day to do all reports . Neither does he allow to send the cases which are not reported nor does he report himself . Atleast he has to report a few on his own , he cannot be waiting for the residents to come and show him the rough draft they made. He has to dictate to the typist lady and report the cases . The typist is a waste since she has hardly any work other than to type a few letters and a few MLC . She has some inflated ego despite being a clerk , she calls the resident doctors by name, don't know if her parents taught her any manners , atleast she has to address the resident doctors as " Dr. " She neither corrects herself nor does the HOD who turns a blind eye . HOD is hand in glove with the class IV workers and the staff , also takes sides of the class IV workers shamelessly since residents will 'come and go' but all those workers will be with him. There is a departmental attender who thinks he's doing a favor to department by working and taking the MLC to forensic Dept .The Professors here create rifts between Junior residents and do not maintain the decency of not interfering.

Dislikes

There are so many dislikes that I had to use the space in the "Likes" column . The working hours in this institute is pathetic , sometimes I wondered if we were doing radiology or clinical branch .The no. of residents in radiology was less, at 2 per year but no. of surgery residents were 10 per year (ratio being 1:5 ) . Its worse now with the seats reduced to 1 per year. Every alternate call day was a night duty with no post duty off .No recruitment of Non Academic Junior resident or SR happened during our time . Most of the SR left , with only one continuing and literally running away on the last day of her term . Another SR became AP and now I heard she left .Presently I believe they've recruited a few non Acad JR and an SR . I would like people to avoid this institute for DNB radiology or any other course . Only if you wish to spoil your life join here. NBEMS has to go through this and remove the accreditation of this institute.
