Aganitha Cognitive Solutions contributes to drug discovery and development by offering in silico services to large, international biopharma and biotech companies. It boasts a broad domain expertise, including data science and engineering, AI/ML, DevOps and cloud, cheminformatics, bioinformatics, computational chemistry, computational biology, and medicinal chemistry. The company's work is unique and exciting, with much to learn. I have participated in projects of varied kinds, and the overall experience is reasonably satisfying. Pros: * Generally healthy and peaceful work culture * Considerate and approachable management/leadership group * Multi-disciplinary collaboration * Flexible work hours * Decent work-life balance * Recognition and growth opportunities in terms of responsibilities within the company are fine

Cons: * Salaries on offer are below market standards, increases in responsibilities and pay are not proportionate * Zero additional benefits * Unusual and rigid policies that remain the same regardless of the feedback from employees * Tedious and demanding interview process that may not necessarily result in picking good candidates * Background of individuals in the leadership group is not diverse => opinions and work of employees in certain domains are under-appreciated though they are essential for the company * Mediocre computational resources and infrastructure

...s themselves so they keep pushing us all for upskilling and improving ourselves. The salary is market competitive for a company of this scale. On WLB, client calls stretch late into the night sometimes, which is okay for me as of now but might not be okay with someone else. Sometimes people work on weekends to close time critical projects, but that is fine as you get comp-offs for it. Good bonus and yearly incentives for long term employees. Positive attitude towards remote work is definitely a positive. A lot of R&D work that the team does with top BioPharma companies.

The company is essentially a services company in the field of bioinformatics and cheminformatics as of now. There are very few Data Science projects. In my time here, I mostly worked on backend python stuff and a bit of frontend. I have only worked on one data science project even though my designation is "Data Scientist". I do not really mind it since I am a more well-rounded engineer right now. Few issues that should be resolved: - Having a proper hierarchy. In most places, it's your manager who gets a budget for appraisals and disburses them. Here, seems like the manager is powerless and has no say over appraisals. - Undefined roles are good when the company is just starting out, but it gets harder to grow if the individual does not have a clearly defined role. If the role changes with every project, it's difficult to build a strong base in a single field. - There seems to be a lack of awareness company wide on how an individual can move upwards in the org. A clear defined path for career progression within the company would definitely help. - Even if the projects themselves have very exciting domains and consequences, the products that you will end up building are not used at a large scale. Most work is concentrated to helping R&D teams in top BioPharma companies. It's exciting but the tech stacks and tools used can be very specific to such teams with very little use outside of these teams/domains. You will never get to scale the project to more than 20 users(The normal size of those R&D teams). If you want to learn how to build large scale systems that are used by thousands, this is probably not the place. But you will be able to pick up necessary skills here. - As of now, the company does not have a product that they want to go to market with. The domain is hard to crack so I kind of understand that. Bottomline, this is not product based company and you should not believe it to be one. It's a high performing service based company that works in a very niche domain which leads to employees working shoulder to shoulder with R&D teams.
