Where do i start? Zero job security we have been asked to reapply for our own jobs. The management is clueless. The bottom line is its a failing business and the lower management has had to suffer

I was part of Packt’s “restructuring” in January, and let me be real—it was an absolute mess. They didn’t just lay off people. They let go of some of the best people. Top performers. Award winners. People who actually cared about their work, consistently delivered, and brought real value to the company. And just like that, we were tossed aside. We were told to reapply for our own roles and list three departments we’d like to move to. Sounds fair in theory, right? But nope—it was all just smoke and mirrors. Most of us weren’t even considered for the departments we picked. Instead, we were pushed into interviews for teams we had no interest in. Why? Because the departments we actually wanted were already filled by people handpicked through favoritism and internal politics. There was no transparency. No fairness. No respect. It felt like a poorly executed game of chess, and we were the pawns they didn’t mind sacrificing. What stings the most is that performance didn’t mean a damn thing. We were consistent high-achievers, constantly recognized for our work—but apparently that wasn’t enough. Maybe we didn’t play the political game hard enough. I truly enjoyed the work I did at Packt. I loved working with authors and being part of something impactful. But the way this whole restructuring was handled? It was cold, careless, and downright demoralizing.
