It is a tertiary health institution established by federal government of Nigeria. I like working at Federal medical centre because of training, job security, work progression and professionalism. Also team building, team work and conducive work environment.

Dislikes

Overwhelmed by patient overload and overstressing of manpower, equipment and shortage power supply. No replacement of broken equipment.

Work Details

There's overload and overworking but with time it has become part of me. I enjoyed consulting patients with undifferentiated health problems and treating them with bio-psychosocial/spiritual model of care with excellent results.

There are only supporting me by creating work schedules that allows me to work 8 hours once in 5 working days, even though that there is apparently no PPE for staff and unethical practises like not organising how to handle Covid 19 patient samples . Moreso, they have paid the so much touted Covid 19 hazard allowance till this moment.

Dislikes

I dislike the fact that the management does not provide condusive work space, and poor equipment to work. The issue of poor remuneration and withholding of arrested plus allowances is the worst.

I am a Medical Laboratory Scientist ( Chemical Pathology Unit). I analyze patient sample to produce quality, reproducible result for patient management.

The hospital management are putting in their best to make health services accessible to all by providing qualitative and affordable health care to all the patients.

Dislikes

There should be more seminar and workshop for nurses to build their intellectual faculty in putting their best to care for patients. The nurses salary should also be review because is token and other incentive should be provided to ensure job satisfaction.

It's encouraging working with people of like minds with good exposure to clinical training and opportunities of career progression. It's a federal institution hence job security is guaranteed although not good remuneration. Travel is during annual leave. No political influences on mode of medical practice. Learning process is excellent with good working condition, work-life is good but worse especially if you're not a member of their religion in the host community, as it is predominantly Muslims here....Read More

There is this aura of love , motivation and team spirit among the eye care team comprising of Ophthalmologist Optometry, Ophthalmic Nurse and Optician. The awareness for eye care is poor here and no medical insurance for the unemployed except those who are employed hence most times we have few clients to attend to( it gives me concern). Dislikes

Low turn out of clients which sometimes can be discouraging. No weekly review of cases even though I have suggested it many times during departmental meeting. The management of the hospital needs to also acquire modern days ophthalmic instruments to make diagnosis easier.

The federal government owned institution is a specialist hospital whereby there is mutual and interdisciplinary cooperation. Each department has its director supervising his own domain with a well laid down hierarchy. Healthcare services is generally affordable and accessible at the primary, secondary and tertiary level.

Dislikes

There is little or lower job satisfaction because employees are not adequately catered for. There is poor remuneration and welfare package for employees. Lack of basic amenities such as water and electricity is also of prime importance. There is lack of basic equipment to work with and this brings about low human development as far as specialization is concerned.

My hospital is a tertiary institution and so we got many referred patients with different illnesses leading to gain of experiences in health line. Also, there is job security as is been owned by Federal government you can't be sacked without following due protocols.

Dislikes

There is little or no training in my hospital and career growth is poor too. No social gathering, just work work work no social activities.
