CWS provided me a platform to explore and grow while making actual ground level impact. I found exceptional mentors and supportive peers who believed in our common vision and mission. The best part is that we as an org are learning, growing and getting better each day. The sky is the limit and we look forward to making much more impact while hand holding everyone towards achieving personal and professional goals....Read More
Moderate focus on showcasing the work that is done - this is improving now with a great comms team. Hiring process should be more streamlined to ensure only the most passionate get the opportunity - the work we do is more than a job and needs a lot of passion and self motivation.

There is a lot of care taken while mentoring staff and a lot of efforts put into the growth and training. It is a transparent organisation and also if people want correct feedback for learning and growth this is the best place to be. CWS also pays better than many other NGOs in the same space and is led by a very strong leadership team which promises and delivers

When it comes to work-life Balance, it is one of the best organizations to work with. Having worked with many orgs before, this org provides strict work times and then you can chill for rest of the day. I have rarely worked beyond office hours. The executive director is prime example of the same on how she manages her work within the office times and rarely asks you to work beyond office hours or weekends. Have been here for more than a year, I have attended two offsites which allowed me to get better understanding of the org, provided learning opportunities through various channels internally and externally opportunities to do more for myself professionally and for the org together. The org invested in me through couple of courses and learning opportunities from outside the org. The people here are amazing, experts in their work and if not are encouraged and provided with all opportunities to become one. The most learning you get are by working with the teams who are in field from both research and conservation areas in the organisation. In all senses, it's an org which encourages you to be more organized, efficient and gives you enough opportunities in the work setting to grow....Read More

If you choose to work in the field, you will have the opportunity to work with both children and community. Yearly leadership trainings for the staff is one excellent program. They do multiple workshop on POSH trainings. Salary is on time. Director is good to field people.
Starting a new job can be stressful especially if the work environment is toxic. fields can be even more daunting if Manager is total lazy and has no basic ethics. As an employee, I had the pleasure of working under a good and director who made sure to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for all of us. However, my experience with the managers responsible for the education program was completely different. These individuals lacked work ethics and seemed to be disconnected from the realities of their field. What was even more concerning was the apparent gender bias within the team. Sadly in our field station, there were, (who still are in organization)men who have a complete disregard for hygiene. This is not just a small issue, but one that is prevalent enough to be recognized by female field workers who can provide multiple examples evidences of such behavior. However, it is disheartening to note that despite numerous complaints, these men continue to neglect their hygiene without any change in their behavior. The reason for this could be attributed to the fact that they are often perceived as being nice to their managers or superiors, giving them a certain level of impunity. This not only creates an uncomfortable and unsanitary work environment for their female colleagues, but also reflects a lack of respect and consideration for basic hygiene standards. Coordinator: It was a frustrating experience to work with a coordinator who lacked the necessary credentials and expertise in wildlife and environment. Despite being a part of a big wildlife organization, this coordinator had zero knowledge and no interest in these areas, yet was leading the program. It was disheartening to see them spreading half-cooked and false information to children and communities. It is concerning to think that such individuals can represent a reputable wildlife organization and it raises questions about their hiring process. Working with someone who lacks passion and knowledge about the subject matter can be traumatic, especially when they are responsible for educating others. On top of that imagine this guy don't do the data work.! And take all the credits for the work done by team. No matter how hard a person works, whether male or female, the rules set by managers for leading teams are completely different here. gender discrimination still exists in the workplace. Even though women may work just as hard or even harder than their male counterparts, they are often treated differently and held to higher standards. Managers don't even visits the field properly. Even if they visit they visit more Temples than actual field and their one on one sessions are just a gossiping sessions. managers often engage in negative and toxic conversations behind the back of their director and seniors. And yes they talk shit about Director their yearly reviews are total joke. Even after so many resignations, it is evident director doesn't know the toxicity of managers or chooses to turn a blind eye to the issue....Read More

Starting my journey as a full time (post college) has been an enriching experience, particularly in understanding the workings of the conservation space. I've been lucky to have experienced mentors who taught me a lot. Leveraging my writing and design abilities, I've honed my skills in responsible communication practices. However, the highlight has been the individuals I've encountered within the CWS team. Their support and diverse personalities have been invaluable sources of learning and friendship. Working within a compact team structure has afforded me into various facets of media and communication, for which I am thankful....Read More

I’ve enjoyed being apart of the media and outreach team. I’ve collaborated with wonderful researchers and brilliant people who are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They are kind and always enthusiastic about wildlife! I’ve been apart of some very impactful projects which have helped me build my career as a professional illustrator.
Work can be stressful with deadlines and multitasking. But which job doesn’t have that? Also as a creative I have had burn outs but taking time off is always helpful.

One can pursue your passion about wildlife and meet some really good people on the field. Trust me when I say good people, I am talking about how down to earth some of these field workers are. They will become family down the line.
Well we’ll ! I have plethora of things. Though the field workers are really good people and are diverse individuals, the manager level and the doctorate fellowship individuals are the ones ruining the firm. Though I did a lot of research before joining and was assured that the field workers won’t face toxicity as of that in the mainBangalore office, you won’t be spared when these manager level individuals visit you. The managers are hands down demotivated individuals with utmost superiority complex. They won’t slice you at one but keep nitpicking and slowly puncture you. I don’t understand how these people reached such level without basic communication skills. It’s understandable that as a manager you have 100 things and gotta make sure things run smoothly. But in order to things to run smoothly it’s basic to have a healthy way of communication which this organisation lacks. The yearly reviews are a joke as the HR and managers go hand in hand. They sit together reading your reviews and then plan on how to revert back with negativity. Even though your fellow field workers don’t have give any bad review on you, it the managers have a beef with you they ll alter the whole review as per their interests. Your voice will be suppressed and you won’t even know how. The policies of the company are really good but gets blocked due to these incompetent managers. Now if you some how cope up with the about shit. There will be these fellowship individuals who don’t even have proper ethics of how to treat fellow individuals. Imran it’s sad that these people who don’t have empathy towards fellow individuals will work for wildlife conservation. Has to be the joke of the century. Equipped with superiority complex I myself have had very bad experience with one such preying hyena. I had to tolerate him for 30 days when our team visited the main field station. Mind you these individuals are highly educated and hold PhDs in their field, but what’s the use when you don’t have basic manners of how to treat your fellow individual....Read More

The colleagues are amazing. The help you through the difficulties of being at CWS. The people Fellows in the media team, research team and especially the conservation team, are so knowledgeable. They are smart, hardworking people who deserve so much and all the joys this field has to offer. Some lifelong friendships were built here.
The usual experience at CWS usually starts with a good interview, you express what you're interested in and what you want to do. In return you're promised a lot of opportunities, field work, and growth. After here it pretty much goes downhill. None of those promises come true although you get some "bait fieldwork" in the first 3 months. The organisation is run by a narcissist, with the classic devalue, belittle, extract, exhaust, discard cycle. The initial discomfort of being degraded on the office group calls/meetings, the unnecessarily harsh feedback becomes a regular office day. And if she's in that "zone" where she randomly is angry with you, a few months will suddenly become hell with her nitpicking everything about you till she finds the next target. Twice a year there are fundraising campaigns in CWS where everyone has to raise funds from their own friends and family for CWS. Based on the money you bring you are shamed or praised publicly. All the awards won are based on endless grants the researchers have to write. Everything you cite in your work has to be a Karanth publication. You don't get credit for the data you collected, analyse and write. She is against collaborations with people who don't worship her and will cut your prospects with them too. When you leave you continuously get stalked on social media, linked in and other places. Expect your new boss to get a call from the director, where she tries to sabotage your career. It's happened to several people. Even people who have been waiting to quit her have waited months, carefully planned their goodbyes with gifts and in time to study (so she can't be as angry) and have to navigate tricky circumstances to get a recommendation letter that she ranks people in based on "her expertise of mentoring over 200 people"...Read More
I went to therapy because of CWS. I was unable to understand the gaslighting the abuse, the reason why all the purpose and passion of working for the environment was slipping away.
