Inadequate guidance and professional development. Competent employees who've shown loyalty by staying with the company are not trained to become managers. Instead, the company hires ppl from elsewhere to fill managerial roles. If that is the solution, why will anyone feel motivated to stay in the company for the long term. It's logical to say that if an employee is good at something, he or she should do more of it; that going one level up and having more responsibilities would limit that productivity or output. But that's short term thinking. The win-win solution is to enable such employees to teach their skill to juniors and help them move up the ladder. Also, the company should be honest with employees that it doesn't intend to promote for whatever reason (lack of trust, culture misfit etc) and state the reason so that such employees don't get their hopes up and can look for jobs elsewhere....Read More
