I worked with Amatir for 2.5 years and I look back fondly at the time I spent. Some good some bad, all in all a wholesome experience. Let's start with perks coming with the job: 1. Salary: If you are deserving you'll get a very good package even if you are a fresher. Don't hesitate or underestimate yourself. I was a fresher and I got their highest package at the time. 2. Food is provided free of cost along with accommodation, internet, and electricity to a limit. You get to share the apartment with other teacher. Privacy is compromised sometimes from the management mostly because of maintenance work. Once you give clear instructions to the supervisor not to enter in your absence, it can be sorted out. 3. Campus is beautiful and spacious. school infrastructure is good, modernising with time. You can easily utilize your evening time on the ground if interested. 4. Atmosphere is spiritual to pseudo spiritual. Totally depend on your own level of interest and spiritual awakening. I personally enjoyed taking part in the activities but because of the duties and routine it became hectic and I started considering it a part of duty. It later became slightly flexibility on request of the staff. 5. You get a kind of autonomy in the classroom. You get liberty to utilize different teaching methods. Lesson plans can be flexible too as long as you are able to complete your targets. I never faced any kind of interference in my classes from management. They emphasize on digital classroom and concerned devices are installed in all classrooms. Student enrollment is from various background ranging from rural, Urban to inter-state. Academically you have to cater everyone. Teaching support and additional resources were given to me on regular basis when I joined the school. Principal catered to every need, would take regular feedback. The Coordinator at that time was highly professional and she knew her business well. 6. The system has a few loopholes which can trouble you every now and then. 1. Red Tapism: there is a lot and a lot of paper work to do. From exiting the campus to entering. You have do things digitally as well maintain offline manual records. Sometimes the records are not even checked for months. Ex: attendance register. Mine wasn't checked for a few months in row. And sometimes the digital sources aren't checked. We were asked to maintain record of digital resources of classroom teaching in a shared folder. Only a few teachers continued making everything digitally and upload, at the end it wasn't even checked. I'm a digital enthusist and I consider it now wastage of my time for months especially when time is a scarce thing in Amatir. And many more examples I can cite. 2. Volatile system: The entire system in my time depended on the whims and fancies of Principal and Coordinator. Anything would happen anytime. There is a rule book which everyone adheres to but the clauses would change anytime sometimes without any discussion with the staff. There were instances of leadership getting personal with staff which ultimately made the entire atmosphere hostile. Sometimes you need to remind them of the rule book and then they would change it according to their own convenience. Every session came with new rules. Once you feel settled, system gets changed. I believe they can work on it. There was no accountability on the Coordinator whom the teacher needs to reach first. Things were manipulated, entire system seemed upside-down, no attention was paid to regular duties such as seating arrangement in exams, at point it felt like burnout on personal level. Teachers started to directly meet the Principal or the director. Which again was an example of volatile system. I suggest they should organize 1-1 session with management on regular basis to maintain transparency and accountability. 3. Sometimes you find work being done only for the sake of doing it without any educational aim. The philosophical aptitude regarding teaching wasn't seen much. Very less emphasis was made on skill development of teachers. 4. Work-life balance: There is no balance. You are working all the time, everyday including Sunday. Working hours are long. You don't get separate time to build teaching material or resources for your classes. Ultimately either you do it in your personal time or sacrifice quality of your teaching by switching to book translation method. In free lectures you are mostly a substitute. They should work on limited teaching hours/ at least 1 hour free everyday to increase quality of teaching. 5. Harmony: I would rate it 3/5. Management is reachable, they are all ears to your issues. Sometimes you get solutions sometimes you don't. There is less flexibility for teachers. Most of the days you end up exceeding your working hours and then if you are even 1 minute late they deduct some portion of your salary for the day. Flexibility with teachers can being a lot of positivity in the campus. 6: Job Security: Done according to the rules. 7: Advice: It is an institution and you are an employee, please remember that.
