Salient Surgical Technologies tries to keep blood loss to a minimum. The company develops, manufactures, and markets medical devices using its proprietary TRANSCOLLATION technology, which combines radiofrequency (RF) energy and saline to reduce or stop bleeding in surgery. The thermal energy is delivered via Salient's main product, the AQUAMANTYS System, which consists of an RF pump and generator system and disposable handheld sealer tools that permanently seal blood vessels, soft tissue, and bone. Salient markets the system in the US, Europe, and Asia for use in orthopedic, spinal, oncology, and organ resection surgeries. The company was acquired by medical device maker Medtronic in 2011.
