- The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has fined Metro Bank $21 million for money laundering protection lapses.
- Metro Bank failed to properly monitor money laundering risks on 60 million transactions between 2016 and 2020.
- Concerns about the monitoring system were raised in 2017 and 2018, but the issue was not fixed until 2019.
- Metro Bank has accepted the FCA's findings and stated that it has resolved the failings in its transaction monitoring system.

Metro Bank fined nearly £17m for failure to monitor potential money laundering
- Metro Bank has been fined nearly £17m by the UK’s financial watchdog for failings in its money laundering controls over four years.
- The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) issued the £16.7m penalty after finding failures in monitoring 60m transactions that risked a “gap being left in the defence against the criminal use of the financial system”.
- Problems persisted despite being raised by junior employees three years before they were completely resolved, the regulator said.
- Metro Bank has accepted the FCA’s findings and has since resolved the monitoring system failings and enhanced its processes.

Metrobank net income rises to P12.12B in Q3
- METROPOLITAN Bank & Trust Co.’s (Metrobank) net income rose by 11.35% in the third quarter to P12.124 billion.
- This brought Metrobank’s net income for the first nine months to P35.729 billion, up by 12.4% year on year.
- The bank’s net interest income rose by 4.1% to P27.752 billion, driven by higher income from loans and receivables.
- Metrobank’s asset quality improved as its nonperforming loan (NPL) ratio eased to 1.59% as of September.
