Trump’s 10% Tariff on Chinese Imports Disrupts E-Commerce
- President Donald Trump’s 10% tariff on Chinese imports disrupts the e-commerce sector.
- The de minimis rule, allowing duty-free imports under $800, was temporarily reversed and then reinstated with a plan to collect tariffs on low-value shipments.
- Major shipping companies like UPS and DHL faced challenges in adapting to the new policy, leading to confusion and additional fees for consumers.
- Despite the temporary relief, e-commerce platforms have already raised prices, impacting consumers who relied on cheap goods from China.

All the weird junk we’re sending to the Moon on purpose
- Delivery company DHL is allowing the public to send non-hazardous, inert items in capsules to the Moon for a starting price of £407. Anything is permitted to be sent provided it fits and is not on the list of banned substances, including inert things such as hair and teeth, according to regulations set by the Outer Space Treaty of 1967.
- Profits from the scheme are put towards furthering planetary and lunar research, though space expert Fabio Tronchetti has said that the scheme focuses more on the monetary endurance of the company rather than furthering space exploration.
- Astrobotic, the Pittsburgh-based robotic spaceflight company that NASA has contracted to carry samples to the Moon, is taking orders for the Griffin Mission One, which is launching in 2025.
- The company suggests items such as family heirlooms, wedding souvenirs, or cufflinks be sent in the capsules.
- Lunar keepsakes will remain on the Moon indefinitely unless future generations decide to mount a clean-up operation. The Navajo Nation issued a statement criticising the launch of human remains to the Moon in 2023 and suggested that the celestial body be a heritage site.
- The US, Chinese and Indian space agencies all plan missions to focus on the South Pole of the Moon, which has frozen water that could be used as a vital staging post on the journey to Mars.
- Space expert Dr Tronchetti believes the trend of companies allowing people to send personal items to space marks a shift away from the founding principles of space exploration.
- Concern has been voiced about increasing amounts of space debris orbiting the Earth and items that get left behind on the Moon adding to the clutter.
- Human teeth, Tardigrades and dinosaur bones all city in the list of odd items that have previously been launched into space.
- An extra-salty pizza was delivered to the ISS in 2001 at a cost of around $1m. It was eaten by Russian cosmonauts for a Pizza Hut advert, while US astronauts were banned from participating in the stunt.

US Postal Service blocks all small parcels from China, crippling ecommerce firms like Temu and Shein
- The USPS has begun rejecting international parcels from China and Hong Kong in response to tariffs imposed by China.
- This move is expected to impact ecommerce platforms like Temu, Shein, Wish, and AliExpress, who rely on sellers from these regions.
- The previous exemption allowing parcels valued under $800 to be exempt from customs duties and inspection has been ended.
- Other delivery firms such as UPS, DHL, and FedEx are also expected to respond with similar restrictions on packages from China and Hong Kong.
