ASDA offers its customers low-price, American-style shopping with an English accent. Owned by US-retail-giant Wal-Mart Stores, ASDA is the UK's #2 food seller (behind Tesco). It operates more than 500 food and general merchandise stores, including supermarkets, superstores, and ASDA Supercenters, as well as ASDA Living stores. Its ecommerce arm, ASDA.com, sells goods online. ASDA's vast nonfood offering includes apparel, CDs, books, videos, housewares, and more. Since being bought by Wal-Mart in 1999, ASDA has ignited a price war in the UK by introducing Wal-Mart's aggressive "price-rollback" program and converting stores to the supercenter format. ASDA rings up nearly 30% of Wal-Mart's international sales.
